Solitaire to S6000 Transfer

Post by IanPearson »

I have seen on this forum, discussion on the transfer of material, by fire-wire, from one unit to another, with some having problems.

I have always been able to transfer both ways between my Avio and Solitaire, without problem. Since I now also have an S6000, but still awaiting delivery of my new HD cam, I have being doing some testing and familiarisation.

I have had no problem transferring material from the story board of my Solitaire to the S6000, both video and audio came over fine and perfectly in sync. Obviously I had to do this to an SD formatted project on the S6000.

I then clip boarded the material into an HD project, again with no problem. The HD program was formatted to HD 1440 x 1080i.

The transfer process was.
Set up the S6000 to record Mode DV Format SD720 x 576i 4 x 3 or 16 x 9, with the interlace “on” and go to the record screen.

From the project required for transfer in the Solitaire, go to “Finish” – “Record to VCR” DV, choose the range for transfer and then click the play button. Once the video signal is available on the S6000, click the record button.

I just made sure I had sufficient blank scene at either end of the material, so that I could start and stop the import on the S6000, before it stopped on the Solitaire.

Even the auto split worked on the S6000, it split the imported scene at every cut on the imported story board.

Hope this helps.

Always good to know.

You could also 'back-up' to an external Fire Wire drive with the Soli and then use this to re-import back into the S6000.
It does means two passes though (one out to drive and then one back in) but it does also gives you a backed up copy - always useful

Thanks for the reply and input Mike, it is as you say a useful method and one I may have to use at least in one case or go out to tape is another. Disc transfer also works well, but for long projects is not practical.

As I said in my first post, I have transferred material from the Solitaire to the S6000, without issue, except in one case after my first post. There is one project I simply could not get to work, I could get the Solitaire to start playing in the “Finish” menu, but the S6000, did not see any signal. No matter what I tried, this project would not copy by fire wire direct.

My summing up is that firewire material transfer is not 100% achievable. Having said that I still continue to transfer both ways from my Solitaire to the Avio and have never encountered any problem.

Strange, but true. :?
