Help needed with camera selection
My Sony HDR-HC9 miniDV tape cam recently wouldn't accept tapes and Sony said they'd fix it for $560! So, maybe it's time to get with the trend and get an SD card cam. I purchased a Panasonic HDC-SD800P that has some attractive features including 1080/60p. Some long-time cassies told me that "probably" my S2000 would be compatible with 60p. My tests so far proved them wrong. Even using the AVCHD mode on this cam and the S2000 will not recognize the input. My last test is to use an SD card reader (when I receive it) then inputting into the cam. Anyone tried this on this cam? or, other 60p cams? btw - in a recent email to MSUS I was told 60fps is not supported by MSUS machines but if enough users want it maybe Germany will get that changed. So, what HD cam do I try next? As a hobbist, a "consumer" model is preferred. Probably either a Sony or Canon HD model. The Sony HDR-CX160 looks good but it does now have a 60p mode, but also a AVCHD as well. Thanks

My BOGART 4 recognizes 720 60P from my GoPro HD camera and the same with all and any AVCHD files from my two AVCHD cameras PLUS .MXF files from my pro XF Canon camera. BOGART 3 does not recognize 60P in the 720 mode for me..
Are you using a card reader? Camera? Try another USB camera or cable.
What version are you running? I checked your profile and did not see any listing.
Anyway....any of the HF/HS series Canon camera are good. I have a CX SONY-works well.
Note: I know the Panasonic uses MPEG AVC-H.264.....I am surprised that is not working. Did you try to import via Media Manager?
Also: AVCHD 2.0 will be out soon. This requires decoding H264 at Level 4.2. Level 4.1 is the highest right now and the display for 4.2 will depend on the hardware . Level 4.2 will be around 28Mbits. Only time will tell if this will function.

Re: Help needed with camera selection
Hello,
Another thing that you might want to consider before making a decision only for 60P. Twixtor software for slow motion only works on Interlaced video. It does not function with Progressive projects. So limiting your choice to only Progressive cams may not be what you want to do.
If you know you want really good slo mo, then shoot it in 60I and do the slo mo, then you can convert it to 60P with one of Cassie's software programs, "Movie mode" and you have the best of both. Just don't give up on Interlaced video entirely. It works wonders with Twixtor.

Re: Help needed with camera selection
thanks to Lou and Jim for your kind help. Comments to Lou: I'm using Bogart V 3.2 - seems only V4 will accept 60p? If so, I will eventually get V4 and that'd be good to have a 60p capability. Meanwhile, on this Pana cam I hope to use its AVCHD mode with my Bogart 3.2. When I get my card reader in a couple days I hope that will allow this cam's AVCHD to be accepted by my S2000! I just tried to input into media mgr and in the USB window it showed the cam and model correctly - at 59GB (which I don't understand the meaning) - and when I clicked OK I got a msg saying there was an "internal error". Assume I can't input by media mgr either? I await the reader. If I must return this Pana cam, I have an eye on the SonyCX160. It's the 2011 upgrade from the CX150 you have but with 60p added. Is there any reason by adding the 60p its AVCHD mode won't input into my S2000 Bogart 3.2 ?? thanks

Re: Help needed with camera selection
The 720 60P is not importing in my BOGART 3 but does in BOGART 4. 30P works in BOGART 4. I fixed my original post to reflect 720P @60. I listed 1920X1080P which is 30fps in GoPro HD.

Re: Help needed with camera selection
thanks for staying with me, Lou. I'm only interested in a camcorder that will edit and produce 1080/60p or AVCHD (which is 1080i, correct?). Will Bogart4 input 1080/60p? My guess: It will only input 1080/30p and AVCHD (1080i) and SD. True? If I know the updated 2011 SonyHDR-CS160 will input into my S2000 in AVCHD (1080i) and I could, perhaps, sometime in the future, when MSUS updates a Bogart 0S to accept 1080/60p - that this cam now produces - I would be happy. I'm convinced 1080/60p is the best quality picture possible currently (you agree?) but AVCHD (1080i) is good enough for the time being. Does this make sense to you? My last Q to you I repeat: is there any reason to think that this updated 2011 SonyHDR-CX160 that has now a recording mode added (the 1080/60p) won't input an AVCHD (1080i) mode successfully into my S2000? If there is a doubt about that issue, I will purchase the earlier model SonyHDR-CX150 you have and also that MSUS recommends. btw - I reiterate, MSUS told me 1080/60p doesn't work in its editors now but may in the future if enough of its users want it Germany may add it. thanks again!
