Are you sure the monitor workaround is not working? Hate to see you lose all that footage. Hopefully, the original material is on TAPE and not a flash card which was erased. Again, I am still wary of solid state cameras for special event, once-in-a-lifetime events. Hold on to the Z-7 as long as possible.

Franklin I hope everything works out amigo !
I don't think we need to step back and use tape as the only means to save footage.
All my cameras are CF Cards... first everything is a multi cam shoot... say a real screw up on one CF card were to occur (never happen in 2 yrs) I have 3 other cameras shooting as well.
Get a Portable External Drive to save files throughout the day... when you get home you have all the CF cards plus a full back up on the portable drive already.
I then load all files from the CF Cards into one of my S-4100 while this is happening I save all files from the portable drive to an external drive connected to my MAC (or PC)
These will be my raw mov files from the full day event including the audio files from my Zoom H4n.
After all the files have loaded in a project on my S-4100 I save all of them to an external drive connected to my S-4100 through HD backup.
I work with 2 machines right now so that means I can work on 2 projects at once...1 project ONLY per machine... Whenever I have a part of the work done say 4hrs of work or finished a montage part of a bigger pkg... I immediately start backing up the one project thats still not finished through HD backup. While this is going on might take 1 to 2 hours depends I start working on the other project from my other S-4100.
I keep alternating like that until 1 project is finished then I can save it as a complete finished project.

I have had crashes like anyone else out there and thankfully I will lose only approx 4 hrs of work only with this method.

Hope this helps someone with the workflow

Franklin. I just lost a days worth of HD material due to a corrupted card. I was taking a video course at a local arboretum, shooting scenery and flowers. I downloaded my material to the HD when I got home.

I then went to download once more to my other Cassie and the card was corrupted. Why? I don't know. It was visible in the camera but could not be downloaded. Luckily, it was on my other Cassie, so I saved that to an external drive and HD TAPE for safekeeping.

I know you use the Sony HVR Z-7. The camera is what is known as a hybrid camera. You can 'shoot' your material onto tape and to the M unit attached to the unit with flash cards all at the same time. My point is, I hope you did not lose your original material or that you used only the flash card M unit attached to the camera.

Syl brings up a good method for those, like myself, who use strictly flash media. I still use my SONY HDV tape deck as a backup and place the tapes on my shelf.

Well, you haven't gotten any encouraging news and as mentioned sending it to Cassie will just result in a full, destructive install loss of all your data which you can do yourself.

However, I would not give up yet.

Have you ever opened the 6000?

I have not seen one of those, but the S4000Pro was fairly straightforward to open and replace the drive.

I would suggest doing that and then once you have installed the software on the new internal drive I would try to access the old internal drive as an external drive and see if you can get to your edited videos.

That would just cost you a new drive (less than the cost of shipping your unit anywhere) and your time.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Lou !!! I understan that you loose a Card, but a HD with many weddings and more
video that I don't remember is frustrating !! I think people who do does
Software(MS GERMANY), updates (Bogart specially ),they have to be careful very CAREFUL before
they release those new Software, test, test and test and more test, not because this happen to
Franklin,is because after this experience I am VERY SAD,and disappoint with MS,yes I know
I dint make a BACKUP,but honesty you don't pay what you pay to be nervous because every time
you see a crash on this editors this is a ADVICE that you should do a BACKUP... This could
happen to any one !! :( .......

Franklin,

I did not know you also work with external Store'n'Share harddisks :!:

S-6000 users who had the same problem have also used Store'n'Share
switching between project environments.
So this may be the main culprit causing the problem.

I would try Tim's tip first before doing a full destructive installation.

Hey Tim!!! yes this will be my next STEP,I am waiting to call Boulder(3 hours time, from Dominican Republic)to see the best
way to open the s-6000, this MAYBE WILL HELP to see a solution to star EDIT and try to send the HD to see if a different
s-6000-S4100-S4000 pro maybe they cant save my HD

Hans!!! yes I am using STORE AND SHARE,honestly I think my problems START there, because I was changing from one HD to
another, and one time I got a MESSAGE that your video and audio file could be corrupted, but I check and everything was
woorking fine :o .....

Thanks an I keep in the NEWS !! :(
