Newbie to this forum and my first post.
I recently acquired a Casablanca Avio 20gb unit. I do all my editing on a pc with Sony Vegas 10. I would like to use the avio strictly to output video from Vegas via firewire from the pc to a reference monitor.
Is there any way to configure this as such:
PC ---firewire out---to Avio---output analog video from Avio --- to reference monitor.
I can get my PC to see that there is something hooked up through ieee 1394 port. I have the input on Avio set to DV but stilll get the msg "No video signal"
Is this possible to do as I would like to or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Thanks so much for your input and hard work..
Jeff

I suppose the answer is "woof"
I'm not sure why you'd want to do this but the Avio's Firewire would only be 'active' whilst it was recording and although you could watch the result on a SCART TV it would be 2 seconds out, from what the PC was doing, due to the recording buffer in the system.

Re: Firewire input for monitoring
You may have one of the original Avio units. When these were released the firewire option was not available yet, so your Avio may only have analog in and out. You could turn on the Avio, go the Record menu and see if there is a DV option present.
I don't know what kind of PC you are using, but if there aren't any analog video jacks on the back you may want to look into an external VGA to Analog video converter or another video card (if your computer can accept it).
Remember that firewire is not like USB, it is not safe to connect and disconnect firewire devices while they are powered up. Make sure that firewire devices are off when you connect and disconnect them.
Let us know how it works out for you. What does Medeltids refer to?

Re: Firewire input for monitoring
I agree with Craig. An Avio ST didn't have DV unless it was converted. I would also be surprised that a DV would have only a 20gb hard drive. (one hour DV capacity?) However, an analogue Avio would not have a Firewire socket or a DV input option. Mystery.

Re: Firewire input for monitoring
Thanks for your responses.
This is a firewire option Avio so I suppose it only detects when recording as was stated. The only reason I would want to do this is for monitoring on a refence crt. Basically using the Avio as a digital to analog converter. I do have the problem solved at this point. I purchased a used digital 8 camera and it works fine.
As for the name, Medeltids...it is Swedish for medieval.
Thanks for you help folks
