A tip for saving-Monitor issue-DVI

Post by LouBruno »

There has been times when no picture appears on the connected DVI monitor and the front LCD screen is completely blank/white on the S4000/Pro/S4100. This is scary as the editor believes he has LOST all his projects and even connecting various outputs to a monitor results in no picture as well as the . The editor panics and contemplates a full destructive installation. This is not the case all the time.

The culprit is usually the fact that the "Screen Setting #2" monitor setting has changed to HDMI in BOGART on these aforementioned machines. No HDMI exists-only DVI. It was changed either by user error (should have been DVI) or for some other reason.

Solution: If you are observing NO INTERFACE and NO FRONT LCD READING (white screen only), do the following:

.Take the current BOGART OS software and place same in the CD/DVD drive

.Boot-up (power-up) the S4000/pro/S4100

.When the analyze screen appears press the letter "V" on the keyboard. "V" =DVI/SCART This is the DEFAULT monitor mode.

.NOW.....do an UPDATE only. UPDATE UPDATE only

.After completion, boot-up again (power-up)

.There is a waiting period during boot-up and you will observe NO PICTURE at this time

.Eventually you will observe the LCD in front of your unit light-up with a COUNTDOWN.

.Let the numerical countdown proceed

.HAPPY TIME!!!! After completion of the countdown, you will observe your interface on the DVI monitor.

Nota Bene: If you are running a 2-monitor mode, you can go to SETTINGS>SCREEN and set up a dual monitor system. Be careful NOT to set SCREEN#2 to HDMI as you will be back with the initial issue.

This procedure is not to be confused with the Emergency Monitor setting. The above issue is different as there is NO DISPLAY on the fron LCD whatsoever-just a blank white screen.

For the emergency setting go to Chet's site: http://www.casablancaexpert.com/articles/20110518

Thanks for the tip Lou - another suggestion for any colleague editing on a Bogart OS editor where your monitor comes up black/dark... check to ensure you do not have an external device attached (like a USB flash drive, external HDD, etc).

I still have this occur once in awhile - and then I remember I have my USB Thumb/flash drive connected. I simply power down, disconnect, reboot and all is well... again! :)

Whilst we're on a roll don't forget that if your S2000 / S4100 appears to be completely dead but the main supply is ok that there is a power switch on the back of the machine (near the mains input socket) and this sometimes does get pressed to the off position when manoeuvring the machine to maybe plug something in the back
