SDXC card not compatible with my S2000??

Post by Gordon »

I just returned a Panasonic HD camcorder when my S2000 would not input from it - assumed (w/ Lou Bruno's comment) that it was due to the Pana cam being "3D ready". That may be true... but, now I have a Canon HF M32 with 64GB memory imbedded and an SD slot for my Transcend SDXC (class 10) card. When output from the embedded memory my S2000 does input/record (yes!!) but when cam is set to the SDXC card my S2000 does not input. If fact, the S2000 will also not input from the embedded memory when the SDXC card is in the cam (but not selected) = i.e., it will record/input when the embedded memory is the only source. The Pana cam only used the SDXC card...maybe that was the problem with the failed talking in that case as well?? If this card is not compatible with MS machines, what size and class cards are compatible? thanks

thanks, Lou, for that info. So, you have no experience with the 64gb SDXC class 10 card I assume? Or, if a 3rd gen cassie accepts that particular card? If no forum person knows, guess I'll email MSUS. thanks

Gordan: I think most users stay away from large volume cards such as the 64Mps and even 32Mps SD cards. The only exception are the 32 and higher CF cards for .mxf files which record at 50Mps. The reason AVCHD on such a large card is dangerous is the chance of corrupting and losing a large amount of material on the card due to file corruption or the loss of the small SD card.

Can you borrow, even a 4G SD card and see if that works. If so, you isolated the card as an issue. OR Maybe your card reader is not compatible? Please let us all know. Thanks.

good ideas, Lou. My card reader is advertised for all SD cards - incl SDXC 64gb. MSUS replied to my email today: they "suspect" my S2000 is incompatible with a 64gb card and they're emailing MS techs in Germany for a more clear/certain answer. They expect an answer in about a week. I find it hard to believe/understand that MSUS doesn't know if their 3rd gen machines can support a 64gb card!! I don't have anyone to borrow a smaller card where I live...I will order a Transcend 16gb card today (which I could use anyway) and check out our hypothosis. Meanwhile, this new Canon HD cam records the best picture in a bit rate of 24Bmps. I've "heard" that Bogart v4.1 is compatible with 24Bmps. Can you confirm that? I guess that implies that my v3.2 is not compatible? If so, selecting 17 Bmps probably will produce a comparable picture using MS's recommended 1440X1080 HD setting? thanks for you continuing help....hope this is interesting to you (and others).

And compatabile with 7Mps, 12Mbps,17Mps, 24Mbps,25Mps 35Mbps and 50Mbps. I tested all of these. Even in the original 4.0 release.

Transcend will work. Works on all of my Canon AVCHD cameras ALL the time.
