Store and Share
Got me "store and share" program and also bought a external Seagate1TB hard drive. Do I format it on my S4000, or should I format it on my computer?
Is there any information somewhere that tells me how to do it?
Also, is there information somewhere that tells me how to use store and share program?
I looked on the macrosystem site and can't find anything.

Re: Store and Share
Hi Ronald
You can format your HDD from your S4K, the following link is a list of PDF downloads, from the MSDE site. It is in English. http://www.macrosystem.de/de_de/support ... echer.html
The following are some notes I put together for myself, on the various backup and recovery processes. These are direct HD backups, but if you require a backup in a different format, you will need to go via the Media manager.
I also recommend you look at Chets site, he has more in depth advice on this subject.
Hope they help.

A16 Bogart Backups, Copying and Archives
With the advent of HDV and solid state storage camcorders, keeping all the original recorded DV tape material and exporting any completed story board to DV tape, is no longer possible. However, with Bogart SE V4 and the Store ‘n’ Share software, there are several methods of saving project data to an external storage device, e.g. Hard drive (HDD) or DVD.
Unfortunately there are two functions with the name “Archives”. The archive listed in the main settings menu is not a backup function as such and is not part of this process.
Please also read the Store “n” Share notes, which gives detail of setting up an external HDD, which may be required with the following processes.
Archive and backup systems.
1. Copy a project to another project
2. Backup Story Board
3. Hard drive backup
4. Archive settings.
5. Saving and loading licence codes
1. Copy a Project to Another Project.
This enables all or part of the contents of one project to be copied to another project on the same HDD. Although not technically a fail safe backup, since it is on the same HDD, it can be useful to use as a temporary save and restore point in the event of problems or corruption occurring later in the editing process.
1. Select the “Project settings” page
2. Under “Project” click “Select” ensure the project required for copy is selected.
3. Under “Project” click “Copy” which brings up a box asking what should be copied, tick all boxes if the story board, scene bin and audio samples are to be copied. Then click “OK”
4. A window opens showing all the project environments that are unused, select one and click “OK”. A warning box may come up indicating if there are any effects that could not be copied, just click “OK” and “OK” again, in the box saying the project has been copied.
5. An exact copy of the original project will be placed in that project environment and either the original or the copy can be used to continue editing. Name this project as appropriate, e.g. Project yyy copy + date
2. Backup and Restore Story Board
The story board of a project can be copied to an external HDD and later returned to the Internal HDD as required.
Backup
1. From the main Bogart SE menu. click “Project” to enter the “Project Settings” menu.
2. Under “Project” click “Select” click on the project which is to be backed up then click “OK”
3. Under “Backup / Restore” click on “Backup storyboard” and select the external destination e.g. desktop HDD No1 and click “OK”. In the drop down box, called “Please choose name”, enter a name for the story board to be backed up and click “OK”. A bar will indicate that the backup is taking place and when complete will say backup complete. Click “OK”.
Tip:- To save the original footage as well as the finished story board, before doing any editing, auto split the original, place all the splits in the story board and follow the backup process. Name this backup (Whatever Raw). When the (Whatever Raw) is restored it will be restored already split. Just saving the original as one file, when resorted, auto split will see this as one continuous scene and auto split will therefore not work.
Restore a Storyboard.
1. From the main Bogart SE menu, click “Project” to enter the “project settings” menu.
2. Under “Project” – “Select”, click on an empty project. Click the project box and enter a name for the project.
3. Click on the “Format” button and enter the resolution, etc, required.
4. Click the “Restore storyboard” button and from the dropdown box called “Please choose name”, select the source from where the backup is stored, e.g. Seagate No1. – “OK”.
5. From the dropdown box choose the project to be restored. – “OK”.
6. A window will appear with a progress bar as the process continues. When complete a dropdown box will ask where to be inserted, e.g. the story board, scene bin or both, tick as appropriate and click “OK” ,“OK” and finally “OK” again after the box says the restore succeeded.
Delete a Storyboard Backup
If a storyboard backup is no longer required, it can be removed form the external HDD as required.
1. From the main Bogart SE menu, click “Project” for the “Project settings” menu.
2. Under “Backup / restore” click “Remove” and if necessary select the external HDD required from the drop down box. – “OK”.
3. From the dropdown box select the backup to be deleted and click “OK”. The backup will now have been deleted from the external HDD.
Note:-
To check what projects are stored on the external HDD, select either “Backup” or “Restore” story board, select the “Source” or “Destination” and the appropriate drop down box will list the stored projects.
3. Backup the Internal Hard Drive
This program enables the whole of the internal hard drive data to be saved to an external HDD. Unlike the generator two software, this saves all the data, but not the OS or programs. Therefore by saving just the data, projects can be reloaded after a complete OS install or even the full installation of a later OS version. However, when using “Restore Projects” it will overwrite all the current internal HDD data, so any work done after the last backup will be overwritten or lost.
Backup the Hard Drive
Each time a backup is performed, it will add the current internal hard drive data to the external HDD, in addition to retaining all previous backups. Each will be given the date and time of backup.
1. With Bogart SE V4, from the main Bogart SE menu, click the HD-Backup button in the settings window.
2. A box opens with 3 choices, click on the “Save projects (Backup)” option.
3. A screen showing the source data (the detail of the internal HDD) and a box showing the destination detail, if at least one external HDD is connected. If more than one external HDD is connected, click on the selection box “Backup medium” and choose the HDD that the backup should be directed.
This box also gives the name that has been given to this HDD and any description that may have been added as to what is on the HDD. Also shown is the remaining capacity of the external HDD and how much is required for this backup.
4. Click the button “Start Backup”. Backup will begin. Note:- This process takes some time to complete, but it is recommended not to cancel the backup once it has started.
Restore the Hard Drive
1. With Bogart SE V4, from the main Bogart SE menu, click the HD-Backup button in the settings window.
2. A box opens with 3 choices, click on the “Restore projects (Restore)” option.
3. A screen showing the source data i.e. Backup media, external HDD name and a list of all the backup dates and time. Select the appropriate HDD and the backup required, usually the latest. This screen also shows the destination, i.e. the internal HDD with some information of capacity and projects in progress.
4. When the source settings in step 3 have been completed, click the “Start Restore” button.
Delete a Hard Drive Backup
1. From the main Bogart SE menu, click the HD-Backup button in the settings window.
2. From the drop down box click “Delete Backup”
3. A screen showing the source data appears. Clicking the “Backup” button lists all the saved backups. To delete select the backup required and click the “Delete Backup” button.
4. Archives
The Archives function enables program customised and saved (Archived) settings, such as colours, title effects, PIP path settings, program defaults, etc to be stored to an external medium and later restored back into the system. This means that settings can be reloaded back into the system after an OS full re-installation, as well as loading into another Bogart unit.
Backup Settings
1. From the main screen, click the “Settings” button, which opens the main Settings” screen.
2. Click the button “Archives” and a select box appears.
3. To perform a backup, click “Backup” which opens another box where the destination can be selected. Select the option required i.e. CD/DVD/BD (a USB stick) or an external HDD and enter a name for the backup file. Note:- any previously saved files will also be shown.
4. Load the appropriate media e.g. a CD.
5. Click “OK”
Restore Settings
1. From the main screen, click the “Settings” button, which opens the main Settings” screen.
2. Click the “Archives” button to open the select box.
3. Load the appropriate media into the Cassie, e.g. a CD
4. Choose the appropriate media source. If the restore is to replace the existing settings then in the “Overwrite existing files” box use the check mark, but leave unchecked if this is to be added to the existing settings.
5. Click “OK”.
5. Saving and Loading Licence Codes
The licence codes required to unlock the programs are not held in the Cassie bias, but are held in the operating system and are therefore deleted when a new full OS installation is undertaken. To prevent having to manually reload these codes after an OS installation, the codes can be saved on a USB key and re-entered after the new OS installation.
Saving the Codes
1. Connect a USB flash drive to the Cassie
2. From the main menu settings screen click “Settings” then “Install Product”.
3. From the window that opens called “Install Product”, click the USB icon, just above the OK button.
4. Click the “Export” button from the box that opens.
5. If necessary, select the USB flash drive to be used and click “OK”.
6. Click the “OK” button in the box that indicated the codes were successfully exported.
The document containing these codes can be viewed on a PC, directly under the main directory and the document is called “Lizenzen”
Reloading the Codes
1. Connect the USB flash drive to the Cassie
2. From the main menu settings screen click “Settings” then “Install Product”.
3. From the window that opens called “Install Product”, click the USB icon.
4. Click the “Import” button from the box that opens.

Re: Store and Share
Hello Ronald,
You will find an article on my website (since you are a member) detailing the formatting of an external HDD for Store N Share here: http://cassieexpert.live.subhub.com/articles/20100702_1
On that page is also an link to a streaming video on the use of Store N Share software.
I find that the easiest way to format an HDD for Store N Share is to use the Bogart HD Back-up software (IF you have that optional software)... the developers built a format command right into that software menu.
Regards,
Chet

Golly! Ian, I can't believe it, you sure went through a lot of work to answer the format question. That was wonderful of you, I sure don't have any questions about formating now. You made it very clear. I was searching all over the internet, couldn't find any information about "store and Share and "formmating. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
Also,Thank you Chet, for the location of the site for the information. I was looking for information on your site too, could not find it.
Next question Chet. Are your instructional DVD avaliable yet on Amazon yet? I'm getting ready to just order them directly from you, or Mr. Smithers. I would like to get the DVD''s and review them before the busy wedding season starts.

Re: Store and Share
What a wonderful wealth of information on Bogart backups, copying, and archives. I'm thinking of combining several small projects into one video. Using the copy system outlined, is there any of copying several into one unused project site? I have recently bought an S3000 with Bogart 4 and have an awful lot to learn about it.

I’m not certain as to where each of your small projects are, but assuming they are still on your S3K, in different projects, then the easiest method of combining is as follows.
For each project make a scene of the story board, by highlighting the first scene in the story board, clicking the fx (effects) button, click the “Scene” button, click the “Range” button, then “OK”, click the “Out” button, scroll the slider all the way to the end and click “OK”.
This will place a single scene of your whole storyboard in the scene bin. With this scene highlighted, from “Special” select “Clipboard”, click “add actual scene” and then “OK” and “OK” again.
Now go into an empty project (lets say No10), select “Special” and “Clipboard”, check mark the scene in the clipboard list, and “Import scene(s)” – “OK”
Repeat this process for all your other projects, except instead of opening a new project select the same No10. A copy of each project storyboard will now be placed in the scene bin of Project No10.
You can actually add all your projects one at a time into the clipboard, then check mark all and import in one go to your empty project No10.
An alternative is to use the copy storyboard as I described earlier, for each of the projects, and then restore from the separate HDD, each to the same project, but this is a much longer method.

Re: Store and Share
Many thanks Ian and yes, the projects I want to amalgamate are all on the S3000 drive. It's so refreshing to have such simple solutions, which may or may not be in the 170-odd A4 pages of the of the Bogart 4 manual. But I'm finding it a really hard task to make sense of an awful lot of info in said book of works. Some colleagues in my amateur video club, most unfortunately using Final Cut Pro, believe you eventually get there despite manuals, not because of 'em. They probably haven't got a user forum which approaches the standard of this one.

Thanks Barrie and Ronald for the kind words, I’m just pleased to help.
The manuals are not good, but are they ever. The translation from German to English also does not help.
Yes we are lucky with this and our PAL forums, they are much better than most.
We also have people like Chet, who is a wealth of information and his web site full of excellent tips and methodology. His DVD tutorials are also priceless.
I personally enjoy the finding out how to do things, call me a sadist, but I love a challenge. Also originally having an electrical engineering background, an engineers philosophy is “you only read the manual if all else fails”.
