Solitaire question

Post by CuChi »

When I'm ready to load a project onto Arabesk, after it loads about 6 min, a message comes up and says "Current project could not be added completely because the virtual DVD partition does not have enough free space" What do I do or what can I do? I have 2 Solitaires - Ioad projects on one while I am working on another project.

Tom,

How large is the Project you are trying to load?

Did you delete all prior Arabesk films?

They don't delete automatically, you have to do it manually.

The easiest way to describe is to go into Arabesk, choose Disk Transfer, it will warn you that doing so will delete all Arabesk films and do you want to?

Choose Yes and then afterwards switch back from Disk Transfer to Arabesk and you should be able to load your Project.

Hi Tim
I do delete the previous projects. I got to thinking (sometimes it hurts) on the second Solitaire I purchased a couple months ago that it has ver 8.0 and the work horse Solitaire has ver 9.0. If I take a sled hard drive from 8.0 to 9.0 will that cause the trouble?

Tom,

I believe it had something to do with the advent of Dual Layer Burners (which required a larger partition for DVD projects in Arabesk).

I did a look thru the CB Forum and came up with this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2774&p=15701&hilit ... ion#p15701
If I understand this correctly - it requires a clean install of your Smart Edit OS, and resets the partition size of Arabesk.

Tom,

You purchase licensing for OS versions and optional software for a specific Solitaire (the licensing information is permanently stored in the bios and so is independent of the hard drives/sleds).

The OS version and optional software are stored on the hard drive so you can use the sleds in either Solitaire as long as the OS and optional software is licensed on the specific Solitaire you put the sled into.

The OS as mentioned is based on the hard drive/sled, so if you put a sled with OS 8 on it into either Solitaire you will be operating with OS 8.

There would be no problem moving an OS 8 based sled to any Solitaire that had been previously licensed for OS 8.

If the Solitaire with an OS 9 sled was never licensed for OS 8 (like you skipped from OS7 to OS9) then it wouldn't work, but the problem would be more basic than a DVD partition.

As the DVD partition is part of the hard drive/sled rather than the Solitaire itself it isn't relevant to what Solitaire you are using it in.

The DVD partition problem you are experiencing is unlikely to be caused by a licensing issue though and definitely is not caused by putting any particular sled into any particular Solitaire.

The problem is more likely to be a corruption in the partition if you are positive it isn't simply a matter of forgotten films not deleted out of Arabesk (out of the DVD partition).

You can try uninstalling Arabesk (in Install Product), powering down the Solitaire and then powering back up and re-activating the Arabesk software.

I don't think that will fix it, but is quick, easy and harmless to try.

If that doesn't work you probably will have to do a full, destructive install of the OS to create a stable DVD partition.

You could firewire your projects from one Solitaire to the other prior to doing the full, destructive install if you are forced to do that.

I you go to System Settings then click the box containing the serial number bottom left of the screen you will see the spec window open. If your burner is dual layer the partition should be about 13gb (I think 6gb for single layer). If it is substantially less you need to carry out a FULL installation of your operating system when it will detect the drive model and produce an appropriate sized partition.

NB Casablanca machines are designed to work with Pioneer IDE (PATA) drives (which are no longer made). You can use an LG PATA drive but it will not produce a large enough partition with a full install. If you really have to replace the drive, keep the old Pioneer to produce the partition, then fit the LG. The partition will not be a problem until you carry out a full installation again.
