Creating Effects
On my Solitaire when I create many special effects it will create a border all around the picture whether a still or a video. It didn't used to do that. It makes the image smaller. $#%!@ WHY? How do I make it stop?

Re: Creating Effects
Tom,
Go to the "Project Settings" menu & check to see if the "Image" is set to Full. It's probably set to small.
That should correct the problem. Also, in the "System Settings" menu check on the "cover border". This primarily effects the extreme edges of a video clip especially for on-line use or when using a video projector. It's a good habit to leave it set to on.
Hope this helps.

Re: Creating Effects
Joel, I did what you said put the image to full (I had as normal) and I went to Systems Setting and effect, rendering and checked the cover border and went back the lighten my video clip and when it got thru rendering, it did the same thing and put a border on the sides and made the picture smaller. What now? Plan B?

Re: Creating Effects
Tom,
It sounds like you have a border special effect inadvertently set.
Are you using on purpose or by accident the "group" effect in Special Effects?
I am many years past the Solitaire, but I'd suggest if you cannot find where the inadvertent effect is set then you need to due some sort of default reset.
I believe if you go into System Settings, Install Product and "Hide" the Special Effect packs that are involved, power cycle your Solitaire (turn it off and then back on again) and then re-activate the packs that should "reset" them.
If you are not sure what packs are involved, then Hide them all.
You don't have to re-input the codes or anything.

Tim,
I did what you suggested to no availe!! It still puts borders on all sides when creating a special effect like the control Image. I'm ready for plan C!

Re: Creating Effects
I'm wondering if the image size has to be set before the footage is imported - that changing it when the footage has already been imported won't affect footage already in your editor. You could test this by going to an empty project, changing the image size to Large, and importing a small amount of the same footage that's giving you the problem. Try some of the same effects you tried previously and see if the border is still there.
There is another possibility - that you are using a video monitor that has an underscan feature that would show you the "safe area" of your image. If you hit the button or setting that controls that feature on the monitor then the image would appear to shrink and show a border. However, that would be on all the time.
It would help us if you would include more info about your system in your profile, like the version of the OS you are using.

Re: Creating Effects
Tom,
I guess let's go back to basics as I was envisioning actual created borders and I am now thinking you are talking about the video being physically shrunk in the available display size.
What do you mean by a border?
Black around the edges?
If so, all edges or just tops and bottoms or what?
If you we are talking about a shrunken display then Joel had the right of it about changing the Image size, but simply changing that will not fix it for footage already input.
You would need to re-input the footage after making the Image size switch as Craig questions.
To test, re-input a short amount of footage that is exhibiting the problem, add the Special Effect that is exhibiting the problem and if that fixes it you have your problem and fix diagnosed.
If not, we can consider a Plan D, let us know.
