solitare and HD footage ?
Can I take my 1080 AVCHD footage from my sony HDR-hx2000 sony cam and dump it into my solitaire and edit a project? I assume the solitare will not hande the HD footage with out being down converted to SD or another format. The sony cam has RCA out. Anyone shoot anything on HD and edit it on the solitare? I need some advice here. I'm wondering my only option will be to buy software for my ASUS laptop that will convert formats to make it work but I'm limited to SD inputs on the solitare. I still have my sony SD cams if something needs to be transfered back to mini DV.

Re: solitare and HD footage ?
The Solitaire with a fairly recent OS can edit HD.
It does so in a surrogate mode creating an SD version to edit in and doing the HD invisibly (outside of greatly increased render times and I mean greatly) in the background.
Upon completion you have to do a second render in the Finish menu to export.
Your problem is few AVCHD cams have firewire which is the only HD input method with the Solitaire.
The Solitaire's USB jacks are USB1 only and HD requires USB2 minimum.
RCA is strictly analog SD, but if your cam can output that you can input to the Solitaire that way, but be clear that will be SD only, not HD.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Re: solitare and HD footage ?
I am sure you meant the HDR-AX2000. I am not familiar with the camera you posted. If it is the aforementioned camera, there is NO firewire thus no way to input into the Solitaire. Such cameras as the JVC HD cameras allow importation of the HDV setting (1440) via firewire. The Panny 130/160 also has firewire but only for the the SD files. Tim is 100% correct as it relates to the USB input on the SOLITAIRE.
SOLUTION: Locate someone who owns BOGART or another operating system. Have them input the flash media to their system. Convert the material to HDV (1440 setting) and then have them send it to a HDV tape in the FINISH window.
Maybe they can lend you their HDV deck at which time you can input via firewire from the deck.
In any event, using the SOLITAIRE for HD is like walking slowly to a destination instead of driving in a car. It is a LONG process. I would suggest upgrading to BOGART for HD if it is in your budget.
