Many times a request if there was any way to BACK UP a EXTERNAL hard drive, just in any case
this external HD have any typical cassie CRASH,and here is the history.
Friday 10 am,after working a wedding for one week in my external SEGATE (1 TB),60 % in use
I went to trim a SCENE and.. bommmmm my amazing
S-6000 CRASH(something daily in my cassie),after a few seconds the s-6000 try to boot, but there
was no way to get this happen, after many PRAYER,I disconnect the EXTERNAL HD,and yessss here
comes the typical, beppp(booting sound),Bogart, bla bla bla,and the internal HD appears,my prayers
works(I had catastrophic problems with the internal HD crash before, what A PAIN),when I go to select
the EXTERNAL HD to keep working my one week wedding a many more projects in this EXTERNAL,the
s-6000 wont let me select this HD,the cassie will FREEZ,but went I unplug the USB where the external
HD is connected everything is fine, the INTERNAL and any other external HD that is connected, but not
the one that I was working, yes I do the unplug everything rear no rear, the s-6000 for the hall weekend
NADA,NADA,NOTHING to see if my external HD comes to work again,In resume there is no way to
BACKUP any of yours EXTERNAL hard drives what a wonderful system we have....

Re: Ok BIG PROBLEM
Don't laugh....this is true. I was testing Store N' Share at one time. It did not recognize my LaCie HD, which it did the day before. I re-booted BOGART and "SMACKED" the HDD with the palm of my hand and LaCie HDD worked ever since. A silly solution to say the least. Sounds like your HDD died on you.

I have a BIG problem too!
Renomee Plus- I was downloading video on one of two huge end-of-year projects for school. An error message showed; it shut down, and when I tried to reboot, I got NO VIDEO on either monitor. I tried the power plug removal, accessories removal, reseat hard drive....all to no avail....I need my work!!!!NOW!!!!...anything I can do?....Can it be fixed?...I am desperate!...sharman

Re: Ok BIG PROBLEM
This is for Lou Bruno and anyone else interested....after reading Lou's post of May 16th @ 8am, and desperate for something to work, I unplugged my Renomee Plus that was not booting up...I took all of the wires out of the plugs....picked up the machine, turned it upside down, and whacked it with my hand.....plugged it back up with everything, turned the machine on.....and I swear to you, it booted up like no problem!!! I couldn't believe it! Now I am not saying this is what everyone should do....but, I'm just saying...THANK YOU LOU! Guess what I did as soon as I found out I was good to go?....I backed up my projects!...what a day!

Re: Ok BIG PROBLEM
Franklin,
Mike Madden recently mentioned he uses a SATA docking duplicator to back up external Store and Share drives.
The docking duplicator is a simple two SATA drive external dock that you insert the original and backup drives into, hit the button and presto! you get a mirror backup at digital copy speeds.
Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Here http://www.buy.com/prod/siig-cool-usb-2 ... 21718.html is a link to these at Buy.com for $53 with free shipping (well, not for you where you are,but...)

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Re: Ok BIG PROBLEM
Hi Lou,
Hi Franklin,
let me tell you about my latest experience concerning an ext. HDD.
It's an IDE-HDD + extra power supply.
I use the HDD for many years by now to backup my PC data every 3 month or so.
Last time I tried to power it up to no avail.
Disconnected from power and on again.
Nothing happened.
So I unscrewed the case and took it out of the case.
Then disconnected all plugs and put them on again.
Powered up and all was OK again.
Seems a heat-problem over the years had oxydated some of the plug-contacts
I don't know but this must have been the reason.
This may also be the reason with SATA-HDDs which have had many hours of running time.
So give it a try and do some unplugging/plugging to get rid of "smearing" contacts before thinking the HDD has died.
All my HDDs I use with S-4000Pro are "naked" ones, those are all used in a HDD-Dock.(4x 1TB in 4 years by now)
Those never had any problems.
Maybe because the insertion of HDD in dock will hold metal-contacts more clean.
