Same Day Edit

Post by JohnKleban »

Hi All,

Below is a link to a SDE from my Saturday wedding. The audio snipits you hear from the priest were taken from the groom's lapel mic - the priest wore one of my lapel mics but I didn't have time to dump in that minidisc; so, I just opted to use a few soundbites from when the priest was in-front of the couple. Shot solo and used my remote camera on the alter for the front shots of the couple you'll see on the kneeler. Oh, you won't see their names at the front because I eliminated their Through the Years montage that proceeded this clip.

As usual John, this is great work. I am always amazed that you work alone and still manage the same day edit feature. WOW. Again as usual, the music complimented the video perfectly.

We have not been in touch lately, hope things are OK with you and yours.

I agree, doing a SDE solo sounds like a nightmare of additional pressure.

Was this a wedding with an unusually long downtime between ceremony and reception?

Even so.

And nice job on the video itself, John.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Thanks Ian and Tim.

All is going well Ian - we welcomed our second daughter about 4 months back. Hope all is going well for you as well; anything new?

Tim, I had 2.5 to just shy of 3 hours to work on that one. It usually takes me about 50 min. just to scan tapes and dump in the clips I want. Then, I lose about 25 min. to rendering; then I putz with the background track and audio soundbites and finally, dump out to minidv tape. It can be stressful, but I must say the key (for me anyway) is to just go into the thing relaxed - I came home to do the edit (15 min car ride); had a snack, then worked on the clip. I felt in a relaxed mode most of the day. Interestingly, I have a wedding this Friday and the bride asked if I could do a SDE; only problem, her wedding is at 2:30 and will last a solid hour - by the time I leave the church from packing up - about 4PM - cocktail hour starts at 5PM. Can't do it unless I talk to a colleague to cover the start of the reception. The plus is the hall is 2 minutes by car from my house...

Hey John,
Great work! Don't you use the grizzly remote system? How long does it take you to set up and break down? The music was great, was it more than one song and what were they? Thanks for sharing it is always inspiring to see other peoples work.
Thanks again!
