Matching still shots to music

Post by methuenbill »

I have a client that wants the lyrics of the song and stills to match at different points throughout the song. Can this be done?
STILL # LYRIC

1 …………………………………….Song Intro
1.5 …………………………………..Song Intro

2……………………………………..The way you wear your hat

3……………………………………..The way you sip your tea

4……………………………………..The memory of all that

ect..

Yes. One way is to make a "scene" of the music and split it into segments representing photos. This will tell you how long to make a still of that photo; Add 1 or 2 seconds to the photo time to include a cross fade or other effect. Put all the stills on the storyboard and add the effect. Nw place the audio music track below the "silent " photo track. Done

If you want to jazz it up a little, use the "zoom" effect to create a sort of "Ken Burns" effect with some movement for the full length of the still.

I don't know if Bogart has the same features that Smart Edit does. There was a feature that premiered in Smart Edit 5 that made it very easy for editors to "edit to the beat" (or to the lyrics in your case ;) ). Here is a video tutorial that shows you how on Youtube that was presented by Chet Davis a few years back. Since you are using stills, you could make them all long enough to insert over the clips in the storyboard. Powerkey would make this very quick and simple. Here's the tutorial:

I'm sure you can dig around to find more on this - I'm not sure if there's anything on the Casablanca Expert website but if you're a member its worth a look.

Bill
Just to add to Craig’s post, I can confirm that the Bogart audio split function does have the “Insert as scenes in storyboard” and it works just like Chet says in his demo.

Again as Craig suggested, if you have power key, hitting the “U” key at the appropriate music points is easier than using the track ball.
