S4000 PRO - Ticking Noise - even when no power
This morning, my S4000 Pro has fast ticking noise from the back left hand corner. It had been turned off for 2 days, and it would not start from the start button. I have disconnected the power and monitor, and it still is ticking. I have also tried reconnecting it after 1/2 hour, and nothing happens except the continuous ticking. Has anyone any ideas what I can do myself (other than send it back to MacroSystem for repair.)

That is an odd one - you'd expect any noise to disappear once the mains was disconnected.
Anything on the little front panel at all
Thing is that there's nothing noisy in that corner anyway, no hard drive, DVD drive or even fans (but then even they'd need power to 'act' up).
I think you'll need to contact Macro

Re: S4000 PRO - Ticking Noise - even when no power
The rear left hand corner (facing from the front) was the hard drive location on my S4000Pro units. Ticking could be caused by a hard drive going out of specs (going bad), but it shouldn't continue long if you disconnected the electrical power to the unit...
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Thanks Tim and Michael.
I also heard from Chet - he had a similar symptom and he had to send his unit back to M/S.
I have left a message with M/S Support and expect to have the same request.
Incidentally, it is still ticking away without and power; maybe it is a sort of phantom power!
My concern is whether FedEx (sorry Tim, UPS), will accept the box as it sounds like a time-bomb!!!
But thanks for your replies, and good to hear from you again Tim.

It is an odd symptom Howard... and it also concerned me that, like a Timex... it kept on ticking for quite awhile, even while unplugged. Something to do with power supply or battery that had to be replaced. If I remember straight - it stopped ticking within 24 hours of so.

Chet

Yes, Lou is on the correct path.
The ticking noise is from the "Zero-Watt-Standby"-Relais which
is fed from the rechargeable 3,6Volt battery.
If over the years(S-4000 since 2008) this battery will lack of power.
The "Zero-Watt-Standby" has to be switched off in the MediaManager.

Re: S4000 PRO - Ticking Noise - even when no power
I have mine shut off via Media Manager plus an on/off switch to the power cord to prevent a phantom boot up.
Can you repost the Media Manager sequence in this thread?

Re: S4000 PRO - Ticking Noise - even when no power
Hans - this issue is only with the S4000/S4000 PRO, correct?
Here are the instructions Hans was kind enough to post previously in this thread

To forever switch off the Zero-Watt-Standby and prevent further non-booting some adjustments have to be done in MediaManager:
MediaManager-->System(Settings)-->Settings-->(8) Device
Brightness 1-->100%
Brightness 2 during standby-->0%
Power saving mode(7)-->Never

Hi Chet,
my information is only the S-4000 and Pro is equipped with the "Zero-Watt-Standby" feature.
