file package

Post by videojim »

I shot footage with a Canon XF105, and have a file that the Cassie S6K likely cannot read, as it is a folder, which software has to decode to put together to make a full audio-video package. So, what is best software to use, and what kind of file to convert to so the S6k can edit it? Ideas?

My own research has led me to Canon, and they said I need software that could read an MXF file. Premier, Vegas were names I heard. Who is using any of those, and what do I need to do, once I have read the file?

Further research has shown that it would be necessary to take the file and have one of the mentioned packages "unpack" the folder, then re-save the file as an AVI, and export to flash stick, which the Cassie can read, and work with. NOTE: Premier Elements CANNOT read it!

We really need the ability to both import & export in the MXF file format...it is a broadcast standard......with Bogart, this is very doable....

I owned the XF-100 and never had import issues. However, that was BOGART 4 at the time.

I have a Canon XF100 and Bogart 5 and the MXF files feed directly from the Cam into my S6000, no problem.

I still shoot with the XF100. Jim did you copy the files from the camera? Did you try loading the clips from the camera? If you saved the files to a thumb drive did you rename the files or take them out of the original folder that the camera created?

I have no issues importing from the camera at all.

My s-4000 pro with Bogart 4.5c does not read .mxf either. It's been a while so I don't remember all the steps but I remember dealing with this sometime ago. I used iorgsoft video converter. I had the .mxf files on a blu ray disc. The files were wrapped in a .mxf and within that were the audio and video files separately. I converted all the video files to HD .mov and all the audio files to .wav and then the S-4000 pro read all of the converted video files off of a USB stick and .wav files off of a CD. Then I had to go in a match them up. The video and audio files had similar names so it wasn't too hard to figure out which audio went with which video. I really don't know how close the converted files were to the original but the client was happy with it.

I am very aware that Bogart 4 & up can read .MXF files generally without issues, it would really be nice if we could export to this codec as well.....the tv station where I work part time utilizes this codec for all edit master projects for on-air playback from the server... the news photographers actually use the GoPro cams a lot for cut-away shots & they are of coarse .H264 codec, but they have to convert them to .MXF......the new .ts file exportation in media manager is suppose to be a pristine copy of the raw file...Bogart is headed in the right direction.....
