SD vs HDV Frame Grab

Post by rone »

Is there or can someone come up with a some what fair comparison between a SD vs HDV frame grab. Might want to post the two jpeg's for comparison.

There is no real comparison.

I have printed off 8X10 photos for a bride for a shot that she wanted that I had on HDV that the photog missed.

That would have looked like amateurish crap (I know as I tried that years ago) even as a 4x6, let alone 8x10 with SD footage.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Frame grabs from HD video are stunning and print up beautifully. We had several 8 X 10 s demonstrated at last year's March Get Together and I was blown away by the quality of the still from HD.

They sure beat the stills we used to use from S-VHS and even Mini-DV now.

Hi All, Just to round this off . . . Using Photo Transfer to get the images off the Casablanca resulted in a file size of 44Kb for DV and 276Kb for HDV. Once opened from their JPEG format this equated to 1.11Mb and 3.34Mb respectively - very printable!

That is an example of an HDV still image exported with Photo-Transfer from Bogart SE.
You can see every tiny brick from the lighthouse. This should be printable.

Folker,

Thanks for the sample post. I did print it and it does look very good. Looks like HDV will provide some nice pics if needed.

Volker, thanks very much for sharing that pic. It was helpful to just click on the link, rather than going through the whole process myself. It's convincing evidence of the quality of HDV.

I'd like to see a comparison of images shot in low light, like at an indoor evening wedding reception with only a low power on-camera light. For me this would be more of a real-world comparison. Anyone? Bueller?
