what kind of audio file works?

Post by videojim »

I have been told that the S6k likes wav files, but that has not been the case with mine. It always takes mp3's and works well with them. Is there a minimum bitrate or some other spec that makes a wav acceptable to an s6k? I record at 320-kbps on my H2, ant the machine likes it. Who is giving wav's to their editor, and at what bitrate are you recording? I prefer wav, but its not working.

Hi Jim,

I'm wondering how you are able to navigate the audio files stored in the H2 with the Bogart editor. When I record with my H4 I have to use a PC to navigate the files stored on the recorder, import them to the PC, burn them to a CD, and then rip the CD into my generation II Kron Plus.

In any case, the H2 can record at 3 different settings when in the stereo mode; 44.1kHz, 48kHz, and 96kHz. I looked at the H2 manual and it lists one sampling frequency for MP3s which is 44.1 kHz. What sampling frequency are you using when you record using .wav on your H2? It may be that Bogart editors only recognize 44.1 kHz whether its MP3 or .wav

For starters, CK, when I record to the SD card, I simply put that in a reader, and it goes in the front USB bus. I am BIG on not burning a disk if I don't have to. If I remember correctly, the S6K was NOT seeing wav files recorded at 44.1. For a short video I make for missionaries, I was recording a song out of the Ipad thru the speaker port, running straight to the H2, then recording on the card with that.
Have not played around with the H2 wav settings, or MP3 settings either. Just figured a higher bitrate meant more material/second. I know its compressed, but it ends up sounding OK in the recording, no clipping, distortion, etc. I tend to record as low as I can, and still get a good look in the levels. Keeps me from over-driving, and sounds pretty good and natural. I'm no engineer, but I do know what sounds good to me. In my H2, the lowest kbps rate for mp3 is 48, the lowest for wav is 44.1. The 44.1 comes at either 16 or 24 bit. the mp3 gives no option.

If I am not mistaken, Bogart can both import & export in the 48 KHz quality......I utilize both .Mp3 & WAV files without issue on my S-4100 under Bogart 5.....

So, Joel your experience is that both wav and mp3's at 48kbps will work with your machine? I am guessing that 24 bit is preferable to 16 at that bitrate? I see both options in the wav side.
