Hi Bill, I have my Pro hooked up to a 46 inch Sharp 120hz LCD via HDMI/DVI cable and the SD video is beautiful. It's that big because now the final mix monitor is off my edit desk and clears up alot of room. It's 6ft back, against the wall with 2 big stereo speakers, one on each side. It's kinda tough putting text in the right place because of the black side bars in the SD mode but it can be done. Now I'm ready for the HDV switch which is next on the list, but in the meantime I can keep working in SD and the client can see where I'm headed.

Well, one of the "best" would be to check out Lou's related thread, but it's pricey.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Right now I have a SD switcher. Paul, you mentioned you are ready for an HD switch. Did you mean a HD switcher? Is there one avaliable, and from where?

I just got noticed my S-4000 Pro has been shipped and should arrive any day now.

I'm ready to purchase an HDTV for editing. But I lack the knowledge as to what to look for when I buy. I know Lou and Tim spare no expenses when it comes to purchasing the best. But I don't make enough money off this business to buy the best of everything, all the time. And Paul's 46 inch monitor is way over kill for me, I don't have room enought to put something that big in my edit area. I would be satisfied with something in the 30 inch or lower range. Am I beight unrealistic? I think Paul mentionrd at the March Meeting that he has a place outside his home for his editing business.

I'm searching daily in this site for all the information that I can get from the experts. I'm looking for information as to what is the best way to hook up a HDTV to the S4000 editor. Any of you experts can e-mail me privately.

I tried to down load the information on the S-4000 a couple of times, it's just does not work. I hope there is some information coming with the unit, or do I have to figure things out for myself.

I use this switcher: http://www.cecompass.com/index.asp?Page ... &ProdID=41

I can hook my S4K into one HDMI INPUT. I then hook my HDMI out of one of my SONY decks. I hook Component into my new JVC HD MONITOR from another SONY HD deck thus using the HD monitor as a source for comp. only.

NOW......I also can convert my S-VHS to DVI/HDMI via this unit: http://www.hdtvsupply.com/scotodvicosc.html
SO I use the switcher output to DVI with all three units attached to the HDMI switcher then use the selector box to output the source.

Hardly! :D

I wish, but I have a family to feed and video is part-time for me.

I am using a MAG 32" HDTV monitor I got on a Office Max Black Friday for like $350.

It works, but I do not recommend it for the S4P.

It's analog input does not work well with the S4P exhibiting a random drop frame playback artifacting that would be totally unacceptable to me.

It does the same thing in both single and dual DVI 1080i mode, but works well in DVI 720p mode on this monitor so it is liveable.

It's refresh rate is decent for general use, but far from ideal.

I like it because of it's versatility.

It fits the corner of my studio well ( :D ), has lots of inputs including VGA and HDMI so I can do without a switcher between SVHS VCR, two DVD players, a DVR unit, a Solitaire and S4P and I can watch TV on it in a pinch, but it would not be my choice if I was full-time.

Hi Ronald, I have only been to Jim's first event and I work out of my home so you must be thinking of another Paul. The switch I was refering to was when I switch from doing business in SD to HD. Hope you have better luck with you Pro then I am with mine. :(

This monitor I purchased is crystal clear and it is both 720P and 1080i. I like 720P.

My best advice now is to stay away from TV sets and use a pro model. It is about 900 dollars new and 800 in B-stock for the JVC. Check your local video dealer for pricing.
