Yes, it is slow but although I havent experienced burning HDV on the Mac yet for comparison. The DVD burning I've done with standard DVDs on a G5/FCPExpress seemed slower. I don't have an external Blu-Ray burner (None of the Mac models are equipped with one), but can burn blu-ray through a Roxio Toaster 9 program add-on (Mine is still in the box ) until I decide on getting an external BD drive for it. The S4KPro seems to be a good reason for procastinating that intent.
When you burned your HDV, does it stop automatically at 11 seconds? Mine did and you have to go back to the menu and click on a separate icon where the rest of the project is housed. I edited a 15 minute HDV project but it stops at 11 minutes and have to retrieve that other icon to continue.
Otherwise, it flaws flawlessly and the picture is absolutely vivid as played back on the Play Station3 and viewed on a 46" Bravia and even when projected with a Cineza Sony LCD projector on a 10 foot screen.
I've been shooting Hi-Def for over a year but has been editing with downconverted HD or anamorphic 16:9 with the the Mac/Solitaire and exported as SD. Some of my past clients are waiting for their Hi-Def versions. I will be editing the archived ones and contacting the clients with play stations.

I was conversing with my friend last night who stated his computer takes hours on end to make a Blu-ray. The "S"4K is no doubt faster. I felt good about that.
I am also wondering if a DATA disc takes longer than a Blu-ray authored disc. That is what is being produced at this time. I don't know the speed until we get the authoring programs. I must say the HDV is outstanding on the "S" unit on my PS3.
I HIGHLY recommend to stay away from the MTS compression and stick with regular HDV at this point. MTS does take quite awhile to render. However, MTS can be used to reintroduce a HDV project back to the scene bin via USB.......a good thing.

My big golf course client just got a Blu-Ray. Is it worth buying that option for the S4K now, or should I wait a generation? I heard that there were menuing problems with authoring in Blu-Ray.
And Eric, thanks for the shutter explanation on CMOS. I don't presently do any weddings, but mostly interviews. We're launching a new einsiders.com website probably this month and next week, my first interview shot on the HD camera goes online (albeit compressed into Flash). My brother shot it actually, I just sat there and did the interview. We messed around with the shutter speeds in an attempt to make the video look like progressive. We've got a Letus on the camera and it is really tricky without proper follow-focus.
As to the monitor issues that this thread is about. I'm budgeting another $600 on top of everything when I upgrade. And I'm thinking that I'll buy a monitor instead of the Blu-Ray option.
There are currently no Blu Ray menu-ing problems on our systems as there is no menu authoring software yet for our system.
