Chapters in Arabesk

Post by KimSWilliamson »

Good Day (yawn) All!

Question about Chapters in Arabesk (actually I have a lot of questions about Arabesk!): I have 3.2c I think of Arabesk

When I have 2 pages of chapters for instance, after positioning the chapter icons on page 1, I go to page 2 to position the chapter icons, then I go back to 1 just to check it again - the page one chapter icons have moved, sometimes even overlapping - it seems that whatever position I put the chapter icons in on page 2, it changes the previous positions of the little icons on page 1, so they might even overlap (on page 1).

So, my question is can I position page 2 chapter icons to be in different positions than the chapter icons on page 1 ?

Boy, it sure would save a whole lot of time to catch my mistakes - to be able to see the chapter layout and title page before I burned onto DVD. I do understand the limitations, but after adding the film, we cannot see the layout of the chapters, maybe in the future?

Another weird thing that happened was on my last film, after burning to DVD in Arabesk, one scene came out with no audio, although it was all fine on the storyboard. I did follow the whole process of making a scene of the entire storyboard, then moving to new project, splitting, etc. but still had glitch. Went back to original storyboard and removed scene, created new background music, put back into new project and added to new storyboard. Whew! It must have been a corrupted audio sample or something.

I have not used the NOP with audio process yet - wonder if it would have saved the storyboard, but had to re-load film3 times and the storyboard is almost 4 hours long. Glad I have the Renommee.

thanks, Kim Williamson

In DVD Arabesk 2 & 3, the Chapter layout is what I call 'global'. That means when you modify the appearance of the menu for any page, it carries over to all other pages in _that_ film. You could have different chapter menu layouts for each individual film but the chapter menu layout remains the same throughout (the individual/modifiable portino is the icon/scene, the chapter text/title that represents each chapter).

In DVD Arabesk 4, you have the option of building entirely new and different chapter menus for each page in the same film (as long as you go into the 'Settings' button in the Chapter Edit Menu and uncheck 'Apply page layout to all'.

I understand and appreciate this need and want to clarify something -- you _can_ preview/see your main menu in DVD Arabesk 3. This is done in 'All' If the playback button is not available, click on Create/Render and it will render the DVD menu for you.

The issue on previewing Chapter Menus - since in DVD Arabesk 3, Chapter Menus are static with no motion capability (you do have motion capability in Main Menu).... your Chapter Edit menu essentially allows you to preview the Chapter Layout, etc. to check for arrangement and spelling.

I don't know what would cause this -- perhaps another Forum member can share their experience on this topic...

I wonder now if this is part of the issue you are experiencing.... unless you are using Dual Layer DVD disks - there is no way to fit nearly 4-hours in/on a single layer DVD. Hmmm... tell us your magic!

Thank you Chet, for your advice and clarification. I am burning onto DL as per my clients request. It is a week long seminar so there was 30 hours of edited video.

One of my local users just had the same problem with a lack of audio in a Chapter. We narrowed it down to a corrupt scene/frame.

Once the scene/frame was eliminated the audio worked in ARABESK.

Lou and Chet & all you other Casablanca Brainiacs,

I cannot tell you how much this forum means to me. When I am at my editng desk at 3am pulling my hair out at some goofy thing I did, or a glitch in the machine I am trying to figure out, I can come here and most of the time find an answer to my problem right away.

This forum is very solution oriented with expert advice and is very professional.

I am wondering what other NLE companies have one of their top guns helping out on the customer forum - thanks Chet.

Also, just reading about all the creative projects being done with our editing systems - it is just sooooo inspiring!

It makes me a VERY LOYAL customer!!!!!

I hope I eventually get enough proficiency to be able to answer someone else's questions on this forum. ;)
