O.K. all you wizards, put on your thinking caps and help me out. I have this very finicky client that asked me to transfer 593 slides to DVD. I done it on my Solitaire and send him a copy. He called today and said he is not happy with a lot of the slides, they are washed out and lack in color saturation. The Client is looking at the slides on his T.V. and projecting the original slides on a screen with his projector and he is comparing them side by side. I told him maybe his T.V. is not set correct.
Now I have my S-4K Pro unit and I want to look at the slides using a compact flash card. Traded in the Solitaire for the new S-4K pro model. The card reader is plugged into one of the USB connectors in the back. I know that I don't need codes for the Card Drive Software. I am using the 4:3 format. I go to the "Install Product" screen and look to see if the "Photo Shop" software is installed and active. I have Photo Shop 1v 1.2c and Photo Shop 2v 2.1c installed and active.
When I go to the "edit screen" and select the "Special Button", I can't find either "Photo Shop" in any of the selections. Where did they go? Can't you do "Photo Shop" on the new Bogart SE 1,2 software when you are using 4:3 format?

Re: Photo Shop
Hello Ronald,
Photo Studio 2 (not Photoshop -- Photoshop is an application manufactured by Adobe for PC and Mac computers) is not yet cleared for use in the new S-4000/PRO.
To bring in JPEG/photos into your S-4000/PRO you will need to use Photo Transfer in concert with the Card Drive software (which reads the images from the USB drive/reader).
NOTE: As an aside - viewing 35mm Slides and comparing them to JPEGs which were scanned or created from the original digital will yield fairly dramatic differences, in most people's experience. But perhaps other members have a difference of opinion here.
Regards,
Chet

Re: Photo Shop
Ronald,
I agree with Chet that scanning and viewing on a TV cannot be compared with viewing slides on a projector screen. However, you are looking for consistency of quality, i.e. originals of comparable color saturation should fair equally in the transition to jpeg. I've scanned hundreds of slides with my Epson V500 film/slide/photo scanner and it does a reasonably good job - if you're not expecting it to look as great as the originals.

Chet, that's one of my problems, I don't see any Card Drive soware on the software list update that was sent with the S4000/Pro. On the release notes sent with the unit is states, "Some add on programs are still being modified and are not yet avaliable for use on the S-4000. Others like the Card Drive Software program are not needed". Does that mean I don't need the Card Drive software codes? And I don't see the Photo Studio in the Special button but it is in the Install Products button.

Re: Photo Shop
Hold it Chet! I think I got it figure out. It's working now. It's not like the old Photo Studio was, it's quite different. Is there a procedure printout or downloadable software about how to go about using the new Photo Studio for the S-4000/Pro. Am I not paying attention to information, am I not see the forest? HUH!

Re: Photo Studio
Ronald,
Two items to share
1. I would recommend deleting (un-installing Photo Studio/2) on your new S-4000 unit. It is not yet certified for Bogart SE OS operation. You would need to use Photo Transfer software to bring in the JPEGs into your Scene Bin in the current Bogart SE OS of the Casablanca S-4000/PRO (soon, you can simply use the new Photo Archives Tool in the Media Manager section of the Bogart SE OS!)
2. Regarding the Card Drive software, I must apologize for the mis-information. As you read on the paperwork included with your new S-4000. the Card Drive software is no longer necessary on the S-4000/PRO series as the drivers that Card Drive provided us in Smart Edit are now included in the Bogart SE OS!

Chet

Re: Photo Shop
Thanks Chet,
Things are humming along right now and I'm a little more knowledgable about how to work things.
To the rest of the poeple that have done slide, film and photo transfers. Maybe you can help me out by stating what you have experienced with duplicating slides and the results. I then can give this information to him so he doesn't think I'm trying to get away with something. I will remove all personal information relating to each individual.
Thanks.

Re: Photo Shop
The dynamic range of slides and video are not in the same ballpark.
If he wants to see brilliant colors he needs to stick with his slide projector.
That does not mean that particular job and all the slides were done well though.
You can always boost saturation intensity and contrast a bit to give the final results a little more punch.
