SE 8 is around the corner.

Post by mykle »

SE is coming, but, until I purchase this software, I would like to know a little more about its use of timeline in addition to the storyboard.

(quote):
"Display (of the timeline) only possible in monitor modes with higher resolutions (VGA)".

Does this mean that I cannot use my Toshiba 17" as a single monitor, but have to add a VGA-monitor? Or, is my Toshiba able to show the timeline, but in an unacceptable quality?

Hello Mykle,

We have just begun testing of these new capabilities in NTSC this week... more info to come in the weeks ahead, including clear explanations of these new benefits.

You can read a little more about them on the MS DE website here:

Hello,
a VGA screen mode of at least 1024x768 is required to display the Timeline.
In "normal" PAL video mode (720x576) the Timeline option is not available.

No, Bogart SE cannot be used in the second generation machines such as the Kron, but SE8 can be.

The Renomee and Soltaire PLUS models can be upgraded to accept the BOGART SE. Renomee and Solitaire's can also be upgraded provided they are converted to PLUS models first. Check with your local dealer. Prestige, Krons and Avio's are not listed.

Thank you for trying to help. To day I tried if I could make my Toshiba 17” run like a PC-monitor with SE 7.

My Toshiba is equipped with a 15 pin interface for PC-use. First I went into the Renommee’s setup menu and choosed the resolution 1024x768 (to see what happened). Thereafter I connected The Reno. and the Tosh. with the proper cable.

Then I turned on both of them. The Reno. started up with the well-known sound, but. no picture was visible on the Tosh.

I am pretty sure I have done something wrong, but what?

Usually I run my equipment connected with a scart-cable, and I have used this connection since my first Avio, for almost ten years ago.

I am pretty sure that this job is easy for you who know what to do. So, if anybody out there could give an idea, it would be fine.

And, I think that many others who would like to go for SE 8, have similar problems.

By PC monitor I believe you are meaning VGA monitor.

First, is that the only input on the Toshiba, because if you have multiple inputs you want to make sure you have it set for the VGA connection first.

Perhaps connect it to your PC to make sure the Toshiba is set properly.

Then it depends on what resolutions your Toshiba will accept.

Try changing the VGA setting in Screen, Screen to 800x600.

If that works, experiment with which settings work with the Toshiba.

Hello Prem,

Your greeting above reminds me of one of my favorite 70's sit-coms :) (Happy Days)...
As pointed out already, Bogart SE OS is only available on the S-4000/PRO as well as those Renommee/Plus and Solitaire/Plus units that receive the Ultra Upgrade.

However, many of the benefits in the new Bogart SE OS V2 _will_ be available to those on the Casablanca II units (Avio, Kron, Prestige, Renommee, Sollitiare, etc). via an upgrade to Smart Edit 8. This includes the Time Line feature mentioned above.

Regarding the VGA Monitor connection - I would also remind Mykle that the software switch to a VGA monitor from your Casablanca (System Settings screen) must occur after you have the monitor connected and turned on --- you have 30-seconds to confirm this new monitor setting before it reverts back to the previous set-up. (this prevents someone from accidentally selecting a monitor set-up you do not have!).

Hmmm…. the Toshiba’s user manual never uses the word VGA. Here they say PC, and nothing else. May be I misunderstand something here.

When the Tosh. is connected, and I go to System setting, the Screen = Video. When clicking on Video, a list of different settings pops up. After having made a choice here, I get a warning that says I need a VGA-monitor, which I supposed I had.

Does this mean that I need another monitor, a VGA for computers, in addition to my Tosh. and go for a dual monitor system? Or, what would be the best solution for my (and many others) problem now?

Even if I purchase a S – 4000 with Bogart SE, or upgrade my Renommee Plus, I’ll need a suitable monitor.
