Upgrade HARD Drive and RAM

Post by DJMic »

I've installed a 256MB Ram in my Kron and just installed a 500GB Hard Drive but I'm not sure that it is detecting properly...
Do I have to do anything special when installing a 500 GB in my Kron?

I went from a 40 GB to a 500 GB and my total time under project settings with the 40 GB is 356 min in 5 (DV) and 856 with the 500GB in the same mode. Shouldn't be in the 4000's minutes??

Do you have to format and partion the drive first? Any idea what state the drive should be in first?

THANKS!

I answered this on the other thread, but in case you don't see it there your issue here is the same one.

SE1 was created back when the top end for hard drives was 80GB and that is the most that will be recognized with that old operating system.

You will need to upgrade to a more recent OS to be able to use the full capacity of the 500GB drive.

I am not a dealer, but you can find a local one here http://www.macrosystem.us/MacroSystem.us/Find.html or contact MSUS directly from the tollfree telephone number also on that page.

From memory you will need at least V3.6c or V4 before Kron will notice the full capacity of that drive. Then you should get around 32 hours +. It is possible that you might still need to install one of those versions even if you elect to go for V7. I'm not sure if there are bios changes involved but some older machines can be a little stubborn if you try and leapfrog too many versions. Your dealer or MS should be able to help you with this.

V1 is a long time to remember but I dont think setting 5 is actually DV, just good mpeg. Isn't there an mpeg/Direct DV button near the slider. 40 gb in DV would only give you around 2.5 hours.

After V2 you loose the slider and mpeg settings.

I hate to add to your woes, but another thought occurred to me. I don't know if you have a DVD burner in this Kron, but in any event you will need to use SmartMedia cards to install the operating system(s). Software CD's can only be read from SE2 onwards. With SE2 or 3 you also need Arabesk installed. From SE4 onwards Arabesk is NOT required to read software CD's. If you decide to install SE7 you could first Install SE4 from a card and then SE7 from a CD. If you go for SE3 you will need to have Arabesk on the card too.
