Question about Macrosystem

Post by methuenbill »

Does anyone know what percentage of the editing units are sold in the USA? I was just wondering as I have the new 4000 unit and the system doen't give the USA as a listing for country. Hopefully they will continue to support the US and keep making software available for us.

Bill,

I do not know the percentage, but we have to be a significant percentage of the editing version of the S4P (this unit is a stripped down Enterprise which is a super cable box and DVR in Europe).

I find it irritating that the USA doesn't make the list.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

There are so many other countries that you won't find at that list... ;)
This "country" switch actually doesn't do anything so just set it to country of your choice...

Nothing personal Volker as I know you are not responsible for this, but If a company is going to have a function that specifically requires one's customer to select their country, it is a poor business practice marketing wise to fail to list a country that you are selling to.

Americans tend to be pretty patriotic and I can guarantee many USA customers, including myself, find it insulting for our country not to be listed, especially considering some of the ones that are, regardless of whether there is a function to this mandatory choice or not.

In fact, I have been asked privately, by several, if this is some sort of political statement by Macrosystem DE.

I have been saying I thought it was simple omission, but as additional versions come out and the USA remains off the list it is frankly harder to support that supposition.

Hey John, I like England and all, but Michigan alone is almost as big ;) and at least you got a listing.

A sign of the times is not alienating a major clientelle base.

At least it is for any company that plans to stay in business long.

Tim, I did not expect that this topic was taken so seriously. I am sorry for the confusion that has been caused by this.
The Bogart SE software including the Media Manager is somehow based on the Enterprise Home Entertainment systems that we have been selling in Europe for a couple of years now. For TV reception and setting up the internal clock and stuff like that it was necesarry to specify the country you are living in. Since we never sold the Enterprise overseas, it was not necesarry to list the US and many other countries as well...
Unfortunatly development "forgot" several times to remove this country selection switch. Now since Bogart 1.2c, I think, this switch finally has been removed.
This has nothing do to with a "political statement". There is no reason for any political statement to be found in a piece of video editing software, don't you think? Why should MS Germany knowingly forget to list the US, as their second strongest market ?
Have a good sunday.

Hello Hans,
as far as I know, you are on Bogart 1.3/2.0. So you won't find that "country" setting anymore in your software.

Dir noch einen schönen Abend und viele Grüße

Volker,

I mentioned that I thought it was oversight on this being essentially a stripped down Enterprise and I don't want to make a bigger deal out of this than it is, but you should know that Americans are proud of their country.

Looking towards the future, I have heard ultimately we will be able to play (not copy) copyrighted DVDs on our system via the Media Manager that Jörg showed some of us last year at the MGT.

I would think the country designation would be necessary for this due to Hollywood regional copyright issues and not only is the USA not listed, but I don't see a single Region 1 country on the list.

Or is the Media Manager going to be a Region (0) free player?
