How do I open the DVD/CD drawer?

Post by mykle »

My S-4000 Pro does not work anymore after trying to reinstall the new SE 2.0. First time I did an update-install, that worked quite well. Couldn’t notice any special problems after that, unless that the computer some times stopped, and the text “No signal” popped up on the TV-monitor. I also tried to put a finished project on to a tape. But, after 75% rendering, the Cassie stopped again.

I then decided to try a full, complete install, and start up the project (12 min) later on. After a while (the software was now loading) it stopped again!!

I know I have been in the Media Manager and played some DVD’s. I was also “looking at” some settings there. May be I accidently changed some values in the time setup that caused the computer to stop? But, I cannot really remember that. And a full install would, maybe, fix that problem.

Trying to fix the problems, mentioned above, I now have another, and bigger problem. I am not able to open the DVD/CD drawer and put the software DVD into it, and start the install!!!

I may start the Cassie, and power it down again. But, that’s all.

So, how do I open this drawer, put a DVD ito it, and start the install?

Hi Mykle,
sometime ago I had the same problem and the sled of DVD unit would not open when
touching the "Eject" button on front panel.
I powered down the S-4000Pro and then powered up again intermediately pressing the
the eject button very fast in that phase. Then the sled suddenly went open and I could insert the system disk.
I would try this.
Maybe Volker can help you with your problem?

Hi Mykle,

If you have a USB keyboard attached hold down (continuously) the 'ESC' when booting the machine it should open the drawer for you.

It should be noted that you should never leave a CD/DVD in the machine when you power it up as sometimes it interrupts the start up procedure, causing the machine to lock up.

Hi,
please try to unplug the power chord for 30 minutes and then try to start the system again.
If you want to open the drawer, follow Mike's steps.

I think all DVD/CD drawers have a small pin hole in the front for the purpose of manually releasing the drawer. Usually inserting a straightened paper clip, applying a little pressure and the drawer will open. Works for me anyway. ;) ;

Bob, unfortunatly this hole is covered with a "plate" at the S4000 system.

Thank you all of you who tried to help me out of this problem. However, I sent my S-4000 Pro to Macrovideo AS here in Norway 2 hours ago, and was therefore not able to try your suggestions. I hope Macrovideo here in Norway know what to do. If not, I may tell them your suggestions, if OK.

I, however, will remember your ideas if this should happen again.

In the future do the following as it works:

.Pull everything that is attached to the unit such as the mouse, usb ports etc.

.UNPLUG the unit for 90 minutes

.PLUG back the power first but do not power-up the unit

.Attach all of the peripherals

ALSO.....if you ever leave a disk in the unit by mistake do the following:

.A different screen will appear upon boot-up.

.You will see two words SMART EDIT and the word CUSTOMER

.HIGHLIGHT CUSTOMER via the keyboard

.PRESS ENTER via the keyboard

The unit will now power-up at which time promptly remove the disk.

Mykle,

I hate to give you such an easy fix for this when I see you have already sent it into Macrosystem, but have run into that I think three times and have found holding tthe Eject button continuously in directly after engaging the power button has opened up the drawer all three times somewhere before the system comes completely up.

I have also run into the dead machine issue and can recommend Lou's steps for that.

I'd suggest checking here for problems and giving us a day or so to respond before going to the trouble and expense of sending your unit in.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Hello Tim,
sorry for my impatience about this. But when I am editing, I'm a very patient man. Just ask my wife. :D
Next time, however, I promise to wait some time more, and I promise you, I appreciate the help I can get here in this forum.
