OS 8.0 Installation Glitch

Post by RodDuchesne »

I am operating a Prestige Plus with two exchangeable hard drives. In attempting to replace OS 6.2c on both hard drives with my recently received edition of OS 8.0, the repalcement was uneventful with the HD #1. However, the Prestige tells me I CANNOT successfully replace OS 6.2c on the HD #2 with OS 8.0 without totally losing the several programs that remain on HD #2. I am able to "save" the remaining programs to my LACIE, but would rather not. Any suggestions as to why HD #2 won't take OS 8.0 without eliminating OS 6.2c info?? Thanks. Rod Duchesne

You can UPDATE to SE8 from SE5,6 or 7. If you have a version prior to SE5 your machine will carry out a FULL installation. Are you sure both were on SE6?

What happens if you try and install/update v6.2c on that drive?

What a great forum...international guidance from not one but two Cassie pros! Thanks to Martyn (enjoyed the pleasure of your company briefly during your trek to Moline, IL a few years back) and to MichaelD. Yes, Martyn, my drive supposedly had OS 6.2c installed according to the "Version" drop-down on the System Settings display. However, following MichaelD's suggestion, I re-installed 6.2c...and then again attempted an OS 8.0 update. Received the same "you can't do that without losing all programs" notice.

One of the programs currently in place on my HD experienced some corruption during production...which I was able to overcome. However, I now suspect some "residual influence" remains that is affecting the OS 8.0 installation. So, in the interests of time, I think I shall go ahead and save onto my LACIE the programs that I need to keep and do a full install of OS 8.0 onto my HD.

Thank you both, gentlemen, for your interest in my plight. Your guidance was appreciated. :D
