edit HDV footage on Prestige

Post by foreveryoung »

I have a few questions. First off I have never edited in HDV or 16:9

I need to edit a video and import HDV footage 16:9 that was shot on a SONY HVR Z1U (1080i & 60i /with a 29.97df time code base)

I would like to edit this on my Prestige (my current O/S is 4.1d) and will the new 8.0 support this?

Also the client would like it output to regular DV, is that possible?

Yes, you can edit HDV with a Prestige and OS versions of SE5 or above.

However, the render process is incredibly slow as in "are you under twenty-five years old?" so there will be time to finish the edit in your estimated lifespan?

If they just want an SD export then downconvert in cam to your Prestige and edit it in anamorphic 16:9 and export it or create a DVD as you normally would (outside of setting the menu settings to 16:9.

Hi Tim-
I will be doing this project with the new 8.0 o/s when it comes out. My goal is to import this to my machine as standard DV so I assume I will need to borrow or rent a SONY HVR Z1U camera or deck. Will the settings be on the camera or in my settings in my Prestigie for standard DV. Thanks for your help

Ken,

Well, you shouldn't need to use the same model, although the rule inputting with the cam the footage is shot with offers the least chance of playback input problems.

Any HDV cam should do for input.

No settings needed on the Prestige other than use Project setting 16:9 anamorphic so all effects are proportionally correct.

Most HDV cams will have internal menu settings to have the cam downconvert on the fly while firewiring into the Prestige.

One note that gets overlooked, when you switch the setting from HDV output to SD output you must power the cam down and then back up for it to take effect.

Hi Tim-
I am going to rent a Sony HVR-M15U for input. Will I be able to switch HDV output to SD output as well? I do not have access to any of the cameras that this footage was shot on. Do I need to rent a deck like that or will a consumer camera work just as well.

Also I see in the manual that 16:9 works only if both camcoder & TV conform to to the 16:9 standard. I understand that the input from the camera needs to be 16:9 and settings on my Prestige needs to be set at 16:9 anamorphic, But other than proper picture display how would a standard 4:3 TV effect the footage?

Thanks
