I would love the quad cam feature on my machine but like Ian I still insert. Ian, I dont think it hurts to re-run old ways of doing things, The method you use is the same as me, with the exception of the use/use. I try to make all the shots I am NOT going to use end in "0" zero! This means that sometimes it isnt always the alternate scene I want so if it ends in a full No. I leave that in place...but still hit "use" all the way thro'.......thats all...John

Thanks Bob, you are the only one who answered my question about original camera time code. I’m not sure how this ended up in a Quad Cam discussion. This 5 camera live music video I am editing will be cut every 3 or 4 seconds with different camera angles and using Quad Cam would be impossible not to mention sloppy plus it can’t cut 5 cameras. With insert I can be precise, yes it’s tedious but once you get going its not so bad. I have to cut 10 songs and one song takes me about 3 hours for a song that’s 4 or 5 minutes. This will actually be a worldwide release DVD so it has to be perfect

Back to Time Code: This was shot with 5 Sony HVR-Z1U cameras which has Free Run time code

You can set Free Run time code exactly to the frame you want (i.e., 00 hrs, 00 min 00 frames). When you use the remote commander to set Free Run time code, all cameras within range of the infrared beam of the wireless remote will start with the exact same internal clock right down to the frame. (I believe this is the same principle behind syncing up cameras with Quad Cam)

Here is my question. is there anyway to display the original time code display in my machine so I can start them all on the same frame. (yyyy-mm-dd 00 hrs, 00 min 00 frames)

If not I will look for a flash from the audience where all camera were pointed at. Remember if I sync it up using a clap or say a beat of the drummer then it could be off a frame or 2 with the cameras from the back of the arena because sound does not travel the same speed of light (there is a delay). When I sync up the remixed audio I will use audio from a stage camera for the same reason.

4Ever, If you are on the current OS you can view the original time code and then use the Trim feature to set them to a common starting point and then use Split to create Inserts while keeping track of sync between the various views.

 If he made scenes of each of the original trimmed clips, would they all start at zero?

Craig,

Yes, but what would be the point?

The Trimmed original views will do that.

If he uses the time code to figure out what to Trim each view to so they all start on the same frame he can just use Splits from each of them for the Inserts.

All you would need to do with each new view would be to use the i function to see where you were in the Storyboard to Split to that point and the length you would want for the view you wanted from the original Trimmed views each time.

I use cameras with time code In/Out. They all have the same time code running during recording. When syncing the fire wired footage in my Kron, I simply trim each cameras footage by viewing the timecode using the “i” function in the edit menu. This is located on the far bottom left corner of the screen. Clicking on the “i” will display the first frame of your time code from your camera. Trim each scene to the same number, which will be your first frame from each camera. If the number you see is displayed as 000.00:00 and you want to see it as 00:00:00:00 as your camera displays it, you will need to go to System settings, click on additional settings, and change the timecode display. I also usually use the Casablanca timecode in the system setting. The “i” function is what you need to check as you trim to the exact timecode number for each camera. I do this on any multicam shoot where the exact timecodes are being recorded. It beats flashes and clapboards when you have this ability. I want to do this with audio that contains the same timecode that comes from other sources other than the camera footage, but the Macro System editors so far do not recognize timecode in the audio mode.

Paul,

I started using the cassie in 2000 and moved up to the kron and kron plus later. I've been around a long time but haven't voiced my opinion much. I hadn’t rejoined after the bulletin board changed last spring until now. I had been going through a bought with cancer last year and earlier this year. I missed the March Get Together last spring because of chemo treatments. With that being said I have overcome the cancer and I am busier than ever and cancer free. It was quite a trauma experience for me, with surgery before the chemo. I have been doing video production full time since 2004 and part time before that since 1988. The Macro System editors have been my choice for video editing. I will try to express my two cents a little more often on this board. It’s good to be back.

Welcome back Larry. I missed the MGT this year too, but for much less important reasons than you. Glad you are doing better.
