HD problems with OS8

Post by BobFoster »

I just tried to finish an HD project with OS 8 on my Reno+. The OS8 is a full install on a 320gb hd that I have been using without problems. The project is set to HD and the footage has been entered twice. Once with a Sony HDV15 deck and again later with the original camera Sony HD camera HVR A1 via firewire using two different firewire cables. The completed video is 6:35 with intro, program and credits. There is one other project less than 2 minutes long on this hard drive in SD.

The SD DVD burned is perfect. The playback on the storyboard is perfect. However, The HD tape has numerous dropped frames at the beginning after the opening graphics and in the middle of the video during a series of cross fades of some short 3 - 4 second clips using 2 -3 second cross fades. (Birdy style) Also, some frames of video not even used in this video but on this project show up in the middle of the series of cross fades during HD tape playback. The artifacts and rogue frames are seen during the HD rendering process before transferring to tape. I have tried trimming in on the problem clips, deleting and re-recording the clips to no avail. I have re-recorded and re-edited the short clips with the result that a different group of frames show up in the series of cross fades than showed up originally. Again, the rogue frames are not part of the clips used in the video.

I'm glad this project is not for a customer as it would be a disaster for showing in HD from a tape. So far I have spent about 6 hours trying to clean up this 6.5 minute video without success. Every time the file has to be HD rendered before transferring to tape and it takes over a half hour for this process to complete. Any suggestions for solving this problem would be appreciated. NO MORE HD PROJECTS ANY TIME SOON!

Wow Bob, that is a mess. The only thing I can think of is getting OS 8.1 and trying that.

Bob what you say is an exact duplicate of my first HD experience in summer of 2007 with my Solitaire Plus.
My project then had a duration of 33 mins. I edited in portions of about 5 mins depending upon actual theme.
Some 5 minute scenes wouldn't even render in HD. I never found the exact reason for this.
But somehow the project was completed spending countless hours of experimenting.
Still in the completed HD project there are about 8 "dropout similar" issues lasting 2-3 frames which couldn't be eliminated.
When played on my HVR-M25 HD deck in frame-by-frame mode I also see what you call "Roge Frames" showing images which
never had been added to the storyboard.
This was my first HD project in 2007 and since then I didn't try a second one... :(
