how does HDV import?
Does the Renomee import ONLY thru firewire, or can it also come in on the DVD player?

Re: how does HDV import?
Well, you can import properly formatted AVI files using Disk Transfer if you have the software through the DVD burner, but I believe you are still talking about your problem getting video from that cam you own that does not have firewirs capabilities and there are significant hoops to jump through in using a very finite choice of PC software that can both properly format and burn to DVD for compatible DT input.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Re: how does HDV import?
Well, Tim, that pretty much says it. It looks like the cheapest solution will be a portable HD. I can dump to it via USB, and then dump to the Ren via the firewire. Since it appears that I cannot import thru a DVD, that looks like it, so I am looking at portable Hard Drives. Hey, its cheaper than getting another computer to burn a DVD I can't use anyway! FireWire is the only way the Ren is going to take in HD.

Re: how does HDV import?
To be more precise... You only can import HDV footage from an HDV camera or HDV recorder via Firewire.
I am not sure if you can import HDV somehow from a portable HD (maybe from those Firestore devices that are recognised as a "camera").

Re: how does HDV import?
To the best of my knowledge, he won't be able to import a HDV file (MPEG-2) from an external drive to the RENOMEE.
In BOGART SE - media manger will read AVCHD as will the RECORD WINDOW in BOGARTSE via the USB ICON-thus importing into the scene bin. I recommend the RECORD WINDOW/USB for clarity purposes.
He would have to convert his files via a PC to a transport stream (MTS), .264, .MOV,WMV etc. file to be read directly into MEDI MANAGER.
As Tim pointed out, he could rip the VOB files via special software and then convert to AVI 2-----good luck with that as the AVI encode has to be precise.

I thought we were talking about HDV ?!As Tim pointed out, he could rip the VOB files via special software and then convert to AVI 2
So there won't be any VOB files to rip.

Re: how does HDV import?
Jim only asked about 'importation" and did not specify format on this thread.
He does have a newer HDV capable cam so HDV would be one of the formats he would be interested in inputting, but not necessarily exclusively so.
I have been shooting exclusively with HDV cams for over two years, but primarily input and edit DV, downconverting on the fly in the cam as it is much quicker and far more reliable than letting the editor do it.

Re: how does HDV import?
Hi Tim,
the thread is called "how does HDV import?" Never mind...
Since I have a Full-HD TV at home I do not want to edit in SD anymore. Seeing the full HD quality during editing is a really nice feature of the new Cassies. So I don't want to go back to SD.
Ok, if your customers ask for SD quality, it is better and more convenient to edit in SD quality even you shot in HD. My 2 cents.
