Volker,

I too have "full" HD at home, is there "half" HD? LOL

While I prefer the quality of HD, our second generation systems are too slow for practical commercial use.

Perhaps fast enough for short projects or hobbyists with lots of patience and plenty of time on their hands, but not practical to make money with.

The S4P is faster, but far from stable enough even with SD footage and a total crap shoot for HDV use commercially yet although I hold out great hope that the code writers will catch up to the hardware someday so I can take advantage of the machine.

Tim, are you saying that you dump your camera's work to a portable HD onsite and then dump that into the Ren? That's what I am hoping to do. The only reason I would have to use the HD is that the cam does not have firewire out, so I am having to use an intermediate stage that satisfies both ends. But your cassie takes the images from the hard drive, no problem? I know I can't go thru the HD, but have to first load it and then unload it.

No Jim, I am not saying that.

I suggested it might work, but have had no reason to do this as I have HDV cams that have the standard (well, it use to be standard on all DV cams) firewire jack and just firewire all my footage in directly.

Also, I have a S4P now (use to have a Solitaire), not the Renommee Plus.

An external hard drive by itself will not work with your Renommee.

What I suggested for your problem of a firewireless HDV cam was you could get an external Lacie drive that has both firewire and USB jacks so you could USB into the drive via a PC and then firewire transfer from the PC/external drive to the Renommee.
