USB 2 to IDE adapter
I just bouought a USB 2.0 to IDE Drive Adapter. It works fine with my S4000P, though it gives me two drive numbers to back up to. Don't understand. I really need the adapter for my Rennomme since the drive is nearly full, but the adapter or external drive isn't recognized by the Rennomme to do a backup. I have tried shutting down and then plugging in the USB cable and tried plugging in after booting up. Nothing seems to work. I have also not been able to use "any" flash drive on the Rennomme. Is there a firewire to IDE adapter that would be available? Is there a general problem with Rennomme USB ports? Anyone have an idea?

Re: USB 2 to IDE adapter
Gary,
None of the generation two machines (those that use Smart Edit operating system) are USB hard drive compatible.
Yes there are IDE to firewire adapters, they are called external hard drive enclosures. LOL
Just make sure you get one that has firewire or firewire and USB (that would give you easy connectability to the Ren, S4000Pro and a PC.
Also, the drive must be formatted to FAT32 rather than the more common and current NTSF.
You can do it yourself hooking it up temporarily to a PC with a little PC knowledge by downloading a small program and following the directions from the same site.

Or you could take the sled out of the Reno, take the cover off and remove the HD, which is VERT easy, I've done it many times with my Reno and replace it with an empty HD. Takes me about 5 min. to do the swap.

Re: USB 2 to IDE adapter
Thanks Tim & Paula,
Paula, the idea for me is to clear off some of the existing hard drive and not have to replace it. Yes, replacing might be easier.
Tim, did you say connecting to the S4000P would not work using the USB adapter? It worked for me with the S4000P but not the Renomme. I am trying to use all my "many" internal drives of the past from my old AVIO instead of puchashing new external drives. Not sure how to identify the "firewire to IDE/SATA drive adapter" in order to locate a place to purchase on line.

Re: USB 2 to IDE adapter
No, I said the USB connection will not work on the generation two machines (Avio through Renommee Plus), it works on the generation three machines, S4000Pro.
If you already have the drive and it is IDE, then you want to get a IDE enclosure and you want it to have at least firewire to work with the Ren and some have both firewire and USB which would give you the ability to also use it with both a PC and a S4000Pro via USB.
If you do not have the drive yet, I would suggest going with both a SATA drive and SATA enclosure.
This will work with the RenPlus as long as it still has firewire capability.

Re: firewire to IDE adapter
Bought a firewire/USB to IDE enclosure. Firewire and USB works fine on the S4000P but neither on the Renomme. I know the USB is a prob;em, but not the firewire. When I select "Soryboard backup", it only gives me "CD/DVD". I think it should give me "CD/DVD" or "Hard drive" as choices. I have OS 8.0 on the Renomme. The S4000P gives me a choice of several locations to backup the storyboard. Anyone have an idea whats wrong?

Gary,
The hard drive has been properly formatted to FAT32?

Re: USB 2 to IDE adapter
Tim,
I know what it can mean to say "I assume", but the hard drive must be formatted properly because it was used in my old AVIO and worked with the enclosure attached to the S4000P with firewire and USB.
Is there a problem with the Renomme since it doesn't give any other choice than the CD/DVD for backup of the storyboard?
