Re: Sugesstions for HD
Franklin,
If you wish to edit in HD you wil want to set your Project setting to HD prior to inputting anything.
With either the Z5 or S4P (or both) turned off connect the firewire cable to both.
*DO NOT connect or disconnect a firewire cable when both the S4P and the cam or deck is powered up or you could short circuit the firewire circuit in the S4P and/or the cam!
Control the cam from the S4P on screen transport controls, begin Play and when you see video beginning engage Record.
If the timecode does not start rolling, use Stop on the S4P's on screen transport controls, use Rewind and then Play again and then Record when you see the video and timecode should begin rolling.
If you want to edit the Project in SD you should set the Project for 16:9 Anamorphic, go into the Z5's internal menu system and find where you set it to downconvert HDV to DV on the fly. Also set the setting of what proportion television you want it to be to.
Then follow the same procedure to input as listed for HDV.
If you do not have an HD monitor then you cannot use the HDMI jack.
HDV footage uses 16:9 proportions as part of it's format so regardless of whether you edit in HDV or downconverted SD it will be in 16:9 proportions.
If for some reason you want it to be in the old 4:3 proportions you would need to use the Cine-Convert software if you have it.
I have never tried that as I have never had a reason to want to make 16:9 footage be 4:3.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.
