- Casablanca Unit: S2000 with all software. I also have a Prestige that I used on my film transfer station. I have B4W loaded on a laptop. I have a S4000 Pro that I am going to trade in for a discount on software for my B4W setup. I even have my first Cassie, the AVIO that I am going to hook up. Not sure what I will use it for but I want to see it run again.

Rendering Time
I usually try to put the date over the top of meetings that I edit. I haven't tried this yet with my S4000 Pro but on my Avio it takes about 16 hours to render the date over an hour long piece of video. Has anyone done this on the S4000 yet? I hope it radically cuts down this render time.

Hello Mike,
If you are exporting your meeting/s to videotape - the easiest (and fastest) way to add date (or any text) is to use the new feature in Smart Edit 8/Bogart 2.
To do this, first finish your storyboard and then:
1. First you will want the date of the actual meeting/event to be displayed so you'll want to reset your date/time by going into the System Settings screen, click on 'Set time' and select the time/date of the meeting)
1. Then click on 'Finish' window
2. click to add check mark to 'Date and Time'
3. Select the font/size you wish to have displayed
4, Click 'Place timecode' and move the display box to the location you wish it to show up (go back and adjust font size if need be)
5.Click 'Create' in the Finish Window. This will render/create that graphic display onto your entire storyboard (and yes, it is faster than real time).
6. You can then export the project out to tape or external DVD recorder with this date/time display.
Hope that helps!
Regards,
Chet

Re: Rendering Time
Thanks Chet! I wish I would have asked sooner. I am sitting here watching my progress bar and it is about 7/8 finished and I hate to hit cancel now. I look forward to learning more about my new unit and hopefully the bugs will be ironed out soon.
Question about your workshop before the MGT: I am bringing my S4000Pro and my big Gateway monitor that you had worked out such a good price for last year. Do you think that will cause "Monitor Envy" and that maybe I should bring something smaller?

Re: Rendering Time
I don't have the 4000, I have the reno+. I almost gagged when I saw you wait that long to render. I just did a test and I rendered a 45min video with text on the entire length of the scene in 40minutes. I would think the 4000 is even faster.

Re: Rendering Time
Hi Mike
I also had an Avio and I have never renderd a whole text file in a project but I have this as a comparison. When I automaticly put in all the crossfades (Great feature on SE 8) from half a second and end up with about three hundred of them I hit the render button and the machine would take about two or three minutes to create them all.(In Bogart you have to render them ?)I then usually take the crossfades out that I don't want or replace with different ones. That gives you an indication how fast the S4000 Pro is and coming from an Avio you really notice it. Don't know the difference in speed with the Reno+ but if you have one I wouldn't replace it yet.

You are welcome to bring whatever monitor/s suits you best!
At the Dallas Hands-on Workshop earlier this year - there was a variety of monitors folks brought, a few CRTs, some flat screens, some of dual monitor most on single monitor and even 3 Liberty units!
Here is a pic of the Dallas workshop - from the back of the room:
So -- bring whatever works best for you!

Chet
