Gary,
We said save out to tape, not save to film and we meant just that.
Going to Finish and export DV back out to digital tape in your cam so you would have a lossless archived copy of your work.
With this you could safely try anything as even if the drive died completely you would still have your work to input on a new hard drive replacement.

It took a while, but I was able to save my project.
