a blow torch or a hacksaw?

Post by charles5335 »

Which of my two favorite tools should I use when my Renommee Plus won't accept a clean install of SE8?
:x I've had some recent problems and figured it would behoove me to do this.
With the SE8 disc in just after I turn the unit on, it makes it to the ugly color bars and freezes up, nothing more, just sits there staring back at me.
With the disc removed, I get the sign-on menu, then a black or sometimes, green screen, nothing more.
I've tried unplugging in the middle of each of these sequences or at the end.
I've waited as long as five minutes before replugging, still no change.
My SE8 disc is not damaged.
How about a sledgehammer, would that be under warranty, do you think?????????????

First have you used this disk successfully before? There have been occasions recently with poor downloads. If it has worked before, try inserting the CD and turning off the Renommee, then turn back on again. Coloured stripes and generally weird colour screens are not unusual when installing o/s on the Renommee. If this fails try downloading another file or obtaining another disk, or try installing a previous version o/s then updateing to 8.

Yes, Martyn, I'd used it before, but as an update, since I'd had SE7 in use before.
It's the one which was sent to me automatically from MSUS when the new version came out.
The color bars are the ones you get right before it asks you which language choice you desire, but it never goes on to that stage, it freezes.
If leaving unplugged last night didn't help, I'll follow your suggestion with an older version and see if I can wake it up.
Thanks

I think a blow torch would be less work and if that cannot fire it up nothing will. :D

I would try another OS CD as it's possible the one was borderline even when you first got it and crossed over to the dark side.

If another OS CD works I would definitely use the blow torch on the offending CD. ;)
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.
