Help a Newbie Please

Post by dixons »

(1) Casa 4K pro; Having successfully rendered/burned a short film to DVd I went back into edit screen and added/created a title to one of the scenes. It played back in the edit screen with the addition but, when I then went into the Finish, Arabesk, Write DVD routine as previously, it delivered me with a copy of the original i,e. without the additional title.

My question. Once rendered/written, is it not possible to make changes as described? If not, is there a way round it?

(2) I would also like to write a copy to Mini DV tape via my Canon XHA1 via firewire but not sure how to do that
Any help with either problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

... and welcome to the Casablanca 'family'!

1. Regarding your modified storyboard and your DVD - once you add a film in Arabesk you have essentially committed that project to the DVD RAM (although there is a variation between Arabesk 3 and Arabesk 4)... but suffice to say, once you have burned a DVD that storyboard has been essentially coded into a DVD project. If you make any changes you would need to remove the old (previous) film/project and add this new project in its place.

2. I am not as familiar with the XA1 as some of our colleagues on this Forum who will likely share any particulars with your camera setting - but to export any storyboard from your Casablanca to a firewire device,
1. With power off on the receiving device, connect the DV cable (_never_ hot-swap firewire cables!)
2. Power the receiving unit on,
3. In Casablanca 'Finish' screen (Arabesk=disks, Finish=tape export), select 'DV' from Record to VCR
4. (if the camera has a successful connection), you should be able to click on 'Recorder-Controls', and click the Record to VCR '>' button to have it export your storyboard to DV tape
(but as it more the case now with all the capabilities of the new camcorders, there are specific settings to make on your camera -- I am sure some of our colleagues will step in with their Canon expertise)

Hope that helps!

Chet

Chet,

Many thanks for such a prompt and informative reply. When you say 'remove this film' do you mean in the Arabesk section and, thereafter, to go back to the editing screen and enter the new version (assuming it hasn't been removed also) to the Finish/Render/Arabesk/Write routine.

I had thought of copying the first version I burned back into the unit as a new project to see if I could then edit/fine tune it. Is this possible?

Sorry to be a nuisance!

Yes - to remove any film/storyboard previously added to Arabesk, click on the 'Films.Chapter Menus button in DVD Arabesk and then select the particular film you wish to affect (in the sliding menu at top of screen)
With that specific film selected (highlighted) click 'Remove Film' you'll be given a prompt/warning, click 'Ok' and it will remove that film.

Then you need to go back into 'Add Film' (under the 'Authoring' section of Arabesk and re-import that Film and continue on.
I had thought of copying the first version I burned back into the unit as a new project to see if I could then edit/fine tune it. Is this possible?
You can import a previously Arabesk authored DVD into Arabesk for modification - this is done with the 'Read DVD' button in the 'Miscellaneous' section of Arabesk. This only allows you to add to the DVD however, not to modify the audio/video of any particular film already added. Since it appears you still have the project on your Hard Drive that would be the preferred method - to modify and then re-add to Arabesk.

And for clarity's sake -- you _could_ also use Ksebara - found under 'New' in your Edit screen to import a film/s from an Arabesk DVD into your scene bin for further editing but it is moving that data from a DVD which has been compressed and is lower quality than the raw video footage in your scene bin (when downloaded from a camera).

Hope that helps!

P.S. You're not a nuisance... just have some legitimate question/s ;)

Chet

As a self-described "NEWBIE" (which we all were at one time) I would highly recommend signing-up to Chet's website. There is so much excellent material for both a new person and a 'seasoned" user-just a wealth of information from PDF Instructional files to actual video on demand. Just my thoughts as it helps to reinforce "things" I forgot as well. Age I guess :-)

Lou,

Many thanks for your kind comments and your observations re Chet's new site. You'll be pleased to know that I have already joined and look forward to extending my knowledge of the C4ooo. pro

Do I note that you have a Canon XHA1? If so, could you explain to me exactly how to transfer a completed film from the Cassie to the mini DV tape in Canon.

regards,
