Casablanca Unit: S2000 with all software. I also have a Prestige that I used on my film transfer station. I have B4W loaded on a laptop. I have a S4000 Pro that I am going to trade in for a discount on software for my B4W setup. I even have my first Cassie, the AVIO that I am going to hook up. Not sure what I will use it for but I want to see it run again.

DVD Burning on S4000 Pro

Post by MikeMattke »

I am burning my first DVD and so far I am disappointed. I thought the rendering time and processing time would be greatly decreased over my Avio. Meaning, I thought it would be a lot quicker!

I added a 71 minute film and so far the "Render Film" progress bar is only at about 10% after 25 minutes. Anybody have a similar experience or is something awry?!

Hi Mike

Don't know about rendering DVD's on other machines because this is my first machine with Arabesk but I know it takes just as long to render as the project is long maybe more. Don't know how it goes in HDV I don't even go there

Wow! A response from down under! Thank you, I figured that might be the case but I had hoped it was not. I am working in standard video so I thought it would be quicker. 2 hours now and it is almost done, can't wait to see how long the actual burning of the DVD will take.

Mike, our Pro's use a software based process for rendering to dvd. The Generation 2 like your Avio use the C Cube hardrware chipset which is much faster. The burning of the actual dvd will take no longer then what your used to. Glad to hear your using your Pro.

Yes, the hardware encoding that the gen2 machines had (Ccube chip) is no longer being manufactured so the gen3 machines have to use the brute strength of the processor just like a PC with the equivalent rendering time.

By the stats you have posted I would put money on it that you are using the Compressed setting for the audio.

Realize setting the audio to Compressed lengthens the encoding time significantly so do not use compressed audio unless you need to for capacity reasons.

Guru Tim: That makes no sense to me at all that they would manufacture a machine that renders slower than the Avio! I guess I assumed wrong when I thought that paying the big $$$ for the S4000 Pro would improve my world.

It is just a real world thing.

The C cube is not made by MSUS and it has been discontinued.

So once the company's stockpile of them was gone they could no longer make the Gen2 machines (Avio through RenPlus) which is one of the reasons for Gen3 machines.

You have the same type of wait time in the PC and Mac worlds for DV to MPEG2 rendering, we were just spoiled on this point with our Gen2 machines.

Early on I was using PCs exclusively for DVD rendering as I found Arabesk 1& 2 unacceptably limiting and I would start a render on a Pentium 3 at night and it would often be still jugging away when I got up!

On the other hand, there is no comparison between an Avio and an S4000Pro.

An Avio is incredibly slow, but works right where as the S4000Pro is very fast, but doesn't work right. :D
