Well to that note, I have only Sony cams.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Aaaahhh... I suspect you are correct. Although I've never had a problem performing the same way with Canon's and Canon captured material with Smart Edit on my Prestige unit...

LouBruno wrote:This is a COMMON Canon issue. This occurs, usually, when a tape from another camera is played in a Canon camera OR a tape RECORDED on the CANON camera is played in another manufactorers camera as a playback deck. It is not a BOGART SE issue as I have come across this malfunction on the SOLITAIRE. This is a camera issue-incompatability in my experience.

I have observed this NUMEROUS times with the GL-1 and GL-2 so it would not surprise me that the XL-2 is the same.

Are you inputting with the Sony or the Canon (or something else)?
In this case Tim it was via the Sony but using footage shot (on someone else's) Canon XL-2 via firewire.

I have just returned from a Mediterenean Sea Cruise with 2 hours and 20 minute HDV PAL footage.
I use the Sony tapes ME DVM63 and ME DVM83.
When importing to my S-4000Pro I had not a single GOP dropout.
Autosplit works perfectly, all cam start/stops were detected without any failure. :D

Any idea when the problems with NTSC software will be resolved? They seem to take care of PAL problems quickly. I am in my busy season and the dropped frames are killing me. Does anyone know if the NTSC sales are less than PAL, maybe thats why they are slow solving to our problems.

Bill,

Sales has nothing to do with it.

You are using an editor made in PAL territory, software that is written initially for PAL territory use so of course bugs are addressed in their original code first.

Unfortunately, the fundamental differences between PAL and NTSC means it is not light switch simple to make a PAL based software work perfectly in NTSC mode so those of us in NTSC land will always lag behind PAL versions as long as we choose to use an editor that is based in PAL land.

I can live with that, but your comment that they seem to fix the PAL versions quickly is totally inaccurate as S4000Pro users over there have continued to suffer most of the same issues we have for virtually the same inexcusable amount of time.
