Hello Forum members, Please answer my question if you can.
I recently purchased a refurbished Kron Casablanca Video system from macrosystem, previous to this I used the original Casablanca. I have someone who wants me to edit some HD video,
My DVD unit works fine for backing up, restoring, and writing final productions to DVD, but does not seem to be usable as an input device.(or I am not aware of how to use it as an input device)
I don't appear to have an HDMI port (although there is a DV port)
I also have the latest version of smart edit which seems to support HD (as there is an HD setting under projects.
My questions are these, is it possible to edit HD footage on the Kron as smart edit suggest?
is there an HDMI hardware upgrade card available for the Kron?
will I need an HD to DVI adapter?
If I use the camcorder that the HD footage was filmed with and play it into my DV input (via the Dv output on the camcorder)will there be any quality loss? (will it still be HD?
is the answer the same if I use a HD to DV adapter?
after I am finished and write the DVD will it be HD? or is there a better way to prevent loss of quality?
is HD video HDMI cable dependent?
Can full HD be seen transfered through a DV input ?
) I don't have these answers so I decided to come here, I know someone knowsThanks in advance ~ Patrick W.

Re: Can I edit HD Video on Kron ?
Technically you can edit HD on the Kron, but because you are talking about a very old and relatively slow processor everything involved from input, editing, rendering to export will be incredibly slow and you do not mention how young you are so I do not know if you have enough time left in your life to finish such a project on the Kron.
Your other questions, there is no adapter for the Kron to give you HDMI or DVI monitor capability.
Firewire is capable of full rez HDV transfer and it is just a matter of setting the Project to HD.
The Kron has a Pioneer DVD burner in it which is strictly MPEG2 DV capable, so no you cannot burn HD with it.
You can burn a normal SD DVD with the unit or export a finished HD Project via firewire to a HD capable cam, deck, etc.
But, see the first comment.
Unless you are talking about a five minute Project I personally would not attempt a HDV Project on the Kron.
Of course, my life expectancy is at best only another thirty years or so.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Tim is correct, it's all about number crunching, but you'll grow old waiting for the Kron to process any HD projects.
