Are we missing something??

Post by Franklinbencosme »

Today I made a very simple test :(

Fire wire 5 minutes raw (NO IMAGE EFECTS, NO NOTHING) video to my S-PRO from my MINI DV player, burn a DVD.

Same raw video fire wire to a IMAC,burn a DVD.

I whent to my 52 inch plama sony XBR(VERY EXPENSIVE), to compare de FOOTAGE :o AND surprise :o :o

The quality from the RAW DVD burn in the IMAC  was more SHARP and cleaner, comparing to the DVD from the spro

Same test returnig fire wire the RAW FOOTAGE to my mini dv player, and MAC looks better then S-PRO footage

ARE WE MISSING SOMETHING on CASABLANCA EDITORS????..........THE BLACK LEVEL,CONTRAST :?: NTSC SACRIFICE from PAL.. ect..ect :?:

Hi Franklin

I Don't think you are missing anything - I find the same thing happening here where we use Pal. I thought it was just me that I was too picky at the footage and even when I edit in HDMI you think it would be crisp but it isn't. M y old Avio seems to have a better picture than my Pro when I edit - it doesn't have a DVD burner so I can't compare those two. Just another thing to be frustrated about a very EXPENSIVE machine. Just purchased Twixtor and found aswell the quality of the footage being not real clear in slowmo and have to run a sharpen effect over it to make it look a bit better.
I think Macro Systems went the wrong way with developing the Bogart System but they won't admit it. Upgrades take way too long I think they sacked a few of there staff to be more profitable.

Franklin,

Not disagreeing, but I am not familiar with Mac authoring, what type of settings do you control and how are they set when you burn on the Mac?

As in byte per?

And what setting are you using on the S4Pro for this comparison?

Normal, High, Maximum?
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Hi Franklin

I render on high quality but use the render setting as intense that did do a better job for me.
Yes it takes a lot longer to finish a DVD but if it meens the quality is better can you try that.
Even when I set the quality on normal the render setting made a big difference to the end result.

I am not sure where you are seeing Normal as described as "best quality" as it certainly is not.

Whenever possible I use High (Max is better, but many DVD players cannot handle the bit rate).

One of the advantages of many PC (and I would guess Mac) programs is you can finesse the bit rate where as we have the choice of four broad settings.

Unless that "intense" setting effects this, I also use the Intense setting.

Just finish my next test!!

whent to professional quality on the MAC,the results is AMAZING
S-pro HIGHT quality end the video IS NOT SO SHARP ,and colors are so VIVID, comparing the DVD burn in MAC.

Ok is you go to VIMEO and see videos from different editors, you will note the different
when you compare to videos made in the CASABLANCA. They look(even with filters) much
betters then US.

This is a long time observation that even one of my(he use FCP),editors note the DIFFERENT

I hope GERMANY IN THE future trys to do a TEST, so my coments it could be appreciated...

Franklin,

I have the Renommee Plus right now and soon to be S-4100. I have never experienced an issue with regards to firewire quality in or output. As far as the 4000 unit, there may be an issue. If there is, MS WILL fix it. There were a few audio sync issues with firewire. The 4000 with all of it's known issues, are about to be remedied this Month from what I understand. MS does'nt have a multi-million dollar software developement team like Microsoft, or Apple, but what they do have, is costomer focus by listening to feature requests, and the best customer focus you could ask for. They do stand by their product. I'm personally excited with the new features coming down the pipe. For one, direct XDCAM support in the video record window. That is HUGE. I understand your frustration, but I am willing to wait than to even think of switching to another NLE and spending hours and hours learning a new system with all of THEIR QUIRKS and issues. With the economic situation, we need to support Macrosystem now more than ever. I have been an advocate user since 1996 and I plan on continuing my support for this great company.

Hey !!! Joel 100% with your coments :D :D
I am casablanca user since 1998(weva at Miami) the only
observations with MS is that they PROMESS but those
promess are to FAR AWAY from the annnoucements
During this technology times, you have to be very careful with
this situation.Any mistake will take out of the MARKET !! :o

First time I bought my casablanca, I remember at weva that
from(aprox) 100 videographer, at list 30 have a CASSIE  and now how many :?:
Remember Dave Slone? he convinced me to get one, and honesty
I will never forget how easy was to learn from him !! I Remember Birdy to
Today we have Chet Davis(excelent teacher),but only time will tell was i going to
happen if MS(this is democracy), keep making more mistake

Any way I still happy :P because my weedings videos are working even
with all the LIMITATIONS that we have with CASABLANCA EDITORS ;)

Please Cassie user  don't get mad with me, we have the rigth to express what we think !!

Thanks for let me express..............Franklin
