is this doable?
I am thinking that since a Renomee, or any other Casablanca editor, has a removable hard drive, can that drive be moved into a Bogart machine that can burn a Blu-ray disk at a later time? I don't have a Blu-ray, but can't wondering how doable this is. I am looking ahead to a time when MSde has the bugs in the Bogart series editors worked out sufficiently to make this possible.

Re: is this doable?
I do not think this will work since the s2 & s4 are not on smart edit but the bogart system. You could download from hd to tape or disc trans and do it that way but not by changing hard drives.

Re: is this doable?
Impossible via hardware.
Possible, as stated above, via exporting to tape only in HDV then importing to BOGART SE via same tape.
Disc Transfer will not transfer HDV at this time.

Re: is this doable?
Since it is a digital signal, there should be no loss in the copying process, from or to tape, right?

Re: is this doable?
I assume you are referring to HDV? Correct. No loss. However, when you import the HDV material back to your editing appliance, it will be ONE scene. No DV BACKUP for HDV where all scenes are restored to the bin and SB.
Bogart's HD backup software does a fantastic job of this.

Re: is this doable?
This doesn't really make sense, because ANY software that can read the file type should be able to pick up the signal. It shouldn't be something peculiar to the OS involved. If its an MPG4, then ANY machine the drive is in, should be able to get it. Now if disk transfer is NOT available for the digital signal, that's an issue Jorg and Co. should address, so drives can be taken anywhere! Understandably, a hi-def program cannot be processed by machines other than Renomee in the SE OS line, but the Bogarts should ALL be able to take something generated on a Ren, and work with it. The file type should be a universal type, readable by these machines.

Re: is this doable?
Jim,
Your argument regarding universal compatibility is flawed.
The drive does not just contain the video/audio data, but the operating system as well.
You surely would not try to argue you could take the primary hard drive out of PC it into a Mac and expect it to work.
Regardless of whether you have video on it, it also is the operating system hard drive and so would be incompatible.
It is the exact same thing.
The gen2 machines like your Ren uses an operating system called VXWorks and the gen3 machines like the S4P uses an operating system called Linux.
Now if the Ren allowed external drives that held only video data it would be different, but it doesn't.
Transferring footage digitally via firewire is lossless and is doable between a gen2 and gen3 machine and would be the best method to transfer footage for this.
Going through digital tape would work also, except for the physical dropouts possibility.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
