I think Franklin is suggesting that Chet Davis teach an advanced class at Cassie U. in Boulder.

Yep, that would be it.

Franklin is suggesting MSUS hosts Chet Davis for an advanced teaching/training class at Boulder.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

OH, I see. When he said VIdeo University, I was thinking about, well, Video University Forum, that you and I are members of. :D

If you would keep that forum in mind, and go back and reread his post, it wouldn't make much sense at all.

Now that does not make sense Kathy. LOL

I am an active member on VU and with that in mind, Franklin's message still made sense from the beginning to me.

MacroSystem used to host an event like what Franklin is referring to several years ago, the instructors were Scott "Birdy" Vicek and Justin Philpott and MSUS called it "Casablanca University".

I only wish I was as proficient in a foreign language as Franklin is.

Hello Franklin,

I cannot speak on behalf of MacroSystem US but can share some thoughts on this topic... (it looks like you have asked my thoughts here anyway)

When I was with MacroSystem the last few sessions of Casablanca University (held in Boulder, CO) offered in 2008 were only modestly attended - several folks remarked that for them it was cost prohibitive to travel all the way to Denver/Boulder, with the associated lodging/travel costs and the opportunity costs of missing not only the multiple days of work for the session but 2 additional days for air travel. So - we started offering the one-day workshops in different regions around the continent.

In the last few years I had heard from a number of folks that they would love a hands-on session nearer their home. So, when I had the opportunity to do so - in my new enterprise as the Casablanca Expert - I have planned several of these Hands-on Casablanca Workshops. My first three have been very successful, both in terms of reasonable participation and in response of feedback from those who participated. You can read their comments here .
It _is_ a bit of work to pull your editor and monitor out and take it to a workshop but all so far said it was an awesome experience. Not only do you work on your own unit during the workshop but you take that unit, complete with the footage and exercises used during the class back to your edit suite for further review and practice.

I do have several additional Hands-on Workshop scheduled for this summer and fall - you can see the dates, locations and a link to the complete agenda on this webpage http://www.casablancaexpert.com/categories/workshops . I would say honestly these are more intermediate, but I am totally open to exploring/discussing an Advanced session for the near future. To pull off a class where the lab is outfitted with editors and monitors will require a size-able registration fee on the part of the attendees. I am open to discussing or exploring this with those who may have an interest in this,

Regards,

Chet Davis

Your unrequested history lesson for the day: :D
Although Justin Philpott and Scott 'Birdy' Vicek did have the longest run as professors of Casablanca University, The first teacher was a MSUS staff member named Greg Hales. I co-taught with him in 1998 when we were still teaching on the Cassie Classic! I continued and taught a few additional Casablanca University sessions (focusing specifically on Educators) and then stepped into other duties with MSUS while a gentleman named David Adame took the helm of Casablanca University for the next couple of years, followed by the team of Philpott and Vicek.

Learn something new everyday!

I did not know David Adame ever worked for MSUS, let alone you taught the classes as well Chet.

Makes sense, regarding you for sure.

I also think regional workshops are a far more economically efficient method for learning than having to go to Boulder.
