Photo Transfer

Post by GaryP »

I am not able to use Photo Transfer to Memory Card or Stick since installing Bogart 2.3c. Using SD, turning on machine after installing card, process looks good and complete, but noting on the card. S4000Pro shows the memory card "in gray or light print" as a "memory device" to export to. Is this indicating a problem? Anyone else having this problem? I haven't tried everything since installing 2.3c but all seems right except the transfer.

Also tried importing and exporting to Card in Foto Transfer V1.9. (PAL)
Box for selection of card type doesn't show up.

Having mixed results here too, but with Photo Studio v2.2. Although CD's are still fine memory cards (via a reader) are another story.

Had better luck with Sticks (Pen drives) but this 'issue' seems to be in Media Manager (import photo's etc) too.

I suspect more of a Bogart / card reader error rather than a Photo Transfer / Photo Studio 2 / Media Manager one.

I have successfully both exported and imported JPEGs from my Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive into both 16:9 Anamorphic DV and HDV Projects.

I also tested three different multi-card readers with both SD and CF cards and all worked fine for input and export of JPEGs.

I did a full, destructive install of 2.3c (before the warning was given not to).

I am thinking all who find Photo Transfer is not working with 2.3c probably used the upgrade path and I am wondering if this is related to the bug problem of losing random graphic programs with the upgrade path.

I would suggest deleting PT and then loading/activating it again and see if that "fixes" it like it does some of the lost graphic issues.

I did a destructive install too prior to testing.

What is odd that although PS 2 did recognise the CF card in the reader, that was called "256A", and it read, showed, deleted and exported photos when I replaced it with another card called "256B" it showed the name of the previous card AND it's photo's (not the set that were on the second card).

I didn't have this issue with Flash Drives or CD's. Haven't tried Photo Transfer yet but got similar problems in Media Manager.

Hi

I used Photo Studio 2 and it didn't wanted to show the scanned photos I have been given it said the resolution was to low.Is this normal since I just bought the program and don't know if that was the case before ? I put growing up photos of the couples on my video and most of the photos they give me are not digital when they were young so I have to scan them in. If it is the case that this program doesn't read scanned photos, this was a waste of money for me as I can't use the program as it suppost to. Thanks for your response.

PS 2 isn't bothered about the source just the file type that is produced for input.

If that file is indeed small then PS 2 doesn't have enough information available in the photo to be able to zoom in etc without pixelation.

I'd try another scan and up the resolution a bit. A file size of 2-3 Mb's would suffice - much more than that would just be a waste.

Jeanton,

PS2 will read scanned photos, but like much of our system it is very limited in the formats it will accept and has a very narrow range of acceptable parameters even in those formats.

You need to scan high enough (300dpi will do) to create a high resolution JPEG to allow you to later manipulate it in PS.

Also, it will not accept scans in Black & White.

That does not mean it will not accept Black and White photos, just they have to be scanned in the Color mode.

My scanner's default setting is Image Type: 48-bit Color, Resolution 300dpi and this works.

Where most get into problems is if the scanner auto-detects black and white photos and scans them in Black and White or Greyscaling.

Make sure to set the scanner to manually scan all photos in the 48-bit Color setting.

If you have any black and white photos, which you have already scanned in grey scale instead of colour, provided you have a reasonable resolution size (200 to 300 dpi) you might not need to rescan them.

Using most reasonable photo programs, all you need do after setting the “image” to at least 24 Bit, or as Tim says preferably 48 Bit colour, is “save as”, and make sure the file is *jpg.

I personally prefer to scan black and white photos in grey scale and then convert as above, the contrast etc, seems to be better.
