Jeanton,

It completely Restores all the Projects (both used and empty) to the exact way they were when you saved them overwriting everything.

To the point that when it is done your cursor is in the Project on the Storyboard Scene you last were in when you initiated the Archive.

So no, it does not Restore the Saved Projects into existing empty Projects.

Using the Restore will lose you everything you have done/changed since the Archive.

PS - whoops, I see your distributor says he answered you. Hopefully our answers were the same. LOL

Yes Tim, he gave the same answer and said backing up the hard drive is an exact clone of the internal hard drive at the time of the back up. Restoring will overwrite any projects that are currently on the hard drive. Just wanted to know before curiosity got the better of me and pushed the restore button as I have a nearly finished project on the internal hard drive. It pays to be patient and ask those things to you guys because I would have been kicking myself if I erased that project.

Jeanton,

Well technically, it is not an "exact clone" as it does not archive the operating system, optional loaded software and such, but as for anything you have loaded, edited, rendered, etc it archives and restores back exactly.

If you do a full install of a new OS you can use the Restore feature to bring all video, audio, etc editing back without wiping out the new OS.

The old internal mirror backup process on the Smart Edit Solitaire created an exact clone of the archived drive including the operating system and therefor unfortunately any developed corruptions in the operating system at the time of mirror archiving.

I like this new method HD-backup process much better than the mirror archiving and the current imperfect Project archiving.

Hi Tim

My distributor didn't say an exact clone he said a mirror image of the hard drive but I am not that technical minded about operating systems and so fort. One other question might sound stupid but that "mirror image" does that include the media manager part as well. I haven't been bothered to import music there since the first time I did that it took me a long time to type all the names in and I am not that fast on the keyboard and lost all that work after a full install. At the moment it is pretty quite here with wedding so it is a good opportunity to get up to scratch with that part of the machine.

You know, I don't know the answer to that as MM has been basically non-functional over here and I have not been using it to speak of as of yet.

HD -backup is definitely is not a "mirror image" archiving of the drive or it would include the OS, but your distributor was probably just talking casually and I am not trying to nit-pick terms,

I just want others to know exactly what the HD-backup process does and just as importantly does not do.
