Hi Group:
I want to burn a working DVD to give to a client for his editing decisions with the Casablance timecode. I cut the three hour shoot into two pieces. Each piece is about 1 hr 30 mins. I wanted to use the uncompressed audio on my DVD and it showed I've used 99%.
I went to the "FINISH" Screen and selected Casablanca Time Code. I then noticed that I needed to render it, so I selected CREATE. After about 11 hours of rendering, and seeing the time code being created, it finally finished. I then went to the "ARABESK" to add the rendered footage to ADD FILM. There was no other footage in the Film file. After about 9 hours of Adding Film it froze up. The only way to clear it was to do the UNPLUG. Tried it again and it froze up again.
What am I doing wrong???
Using Prestige with 8.1 got the 256 meg ram.

Re: TIME CODE
Hello Jeff!
This newer TimeCode display feature is a neat one but it is unfortunately limited to applications where you export from the editor (to Tape, etc). I know of some colleagues who have exported the SB with the Time Code (and/or the .png Graphic) out to tape and then back in to burn a DVD. The alternative is to export out to an external DVD burner to supply your client with the time-code to assist with the development of an edit decision list.
Regards,
Chet

Re: TIME CODE
Hi Chet:
Thanks for your reply. I couldn't find anything on the web site about this, other then the fact that it was now available.
So, if I understand you correctly. If I have my storyboard, render it, from the CREATE Box, with the check off (clicked on) CASABLANCA TIME CODE and after the 11 hours to render I can hook up one of my external DVD burner and output to that via my firewire.
I can't see how something this simple seemed, became so complicated.
Thanks for your care in helping us.

Re: TIME CODE
You are welcome Jeff -- actually it shouldn't take that long to render as you are coming out to tape/DVD rather than having to compile the project in Arabesk. The time required is (I find) just a little quicker than real-time -- this is due to the fact that the effect is essentially being rendered like a down-stream key of the timecode onto your finished storyboard.
To complete this,
1. enter the Finish menu in the project you wish to export with the time code,
2. place a checkmark in the box 'Casablanca timecode'
3. Click 'Select font' and then 'Place timecode' to ajdust the appearance and position of the timecode to your preference.
4. then click 'Create' (with the Record to VCR setting appropriate to your export format
5. Then when you play the SB out - it will contain the superimposed timecode on top of your storyboard video.
Hope that helps!
P.S. I agree it sure would've been nice, handy and logical to have this feature available via export to DVD as well (but then I don't write the code and don't know what that would have taken to do).
Regards,
Chet

Re: TIME CODE
Hi Chet:
Thanks for the additional info.
I did exactly as you say in your post. After it was created again, yes I saw it play when I clicked the PLAY TO VCR. I wanted to hook up the output to my Sony External DVD recorder. So, I turned off the Prestige to plug in my firewire, guess what? The total render was lost when I started the Prestige back up. The file was about 40 minutes in length and took over three hours to CREATE (render). Now, I'm starting all over again! This time I'll be better at it from my first practice run. If anybody else has need to do this remind them not to power down the machine. Just another life's experiences. Good thing I'm not billing by the hour on this!. As usual-it's a freebe for our religious group.
Best regards,

Re: TIME CODE
Jeff I use a Sony gvhd700 to input the video in my renommee and if I don't turn the timecode off on the 700 it will go into the computer. I use this to give the client a work disc. Cheyt is this something new with the cassie? This is the first time I had heard about casablanca timecode. now I use Sony cameras maybe that makes a difference. No thats not it because my Panasonics do the same thing. Whats different with my set up? the 700 has the option of fire wire, HDMI, componet and AV , and svideo out. Bob...

Re: TIME CODE
I f you own CB PAINT, you can import your scene bin into CB PAINT after making a scene of same. CB PAINT has a timecode generator which the time can be set by the editor. Burn the timecode to anyplace in the scene and any size and RENDER the SB out to the project window. Simply burn ARABESK as usual with the timecode attached. Keep in mind that the rendering may be long so CHET'S advice going to tape and back MAY be more efficient, depending on the length of your project.

Re: TIME CODE
Thanks Jeff - I will remember to share that suggestion with folks in the future who are using this function (as the timecode is essentially a layer on top of your finished SB and is not saved with the SB but only applied this time to the Finish window.
Regards,
Chet
Yes Bob - this is new to Smart Edit 8 (and also standard feature on the Bogart enabled new editors.Chet is this something new with the cassie? This is the first time I had heard about casablanca timecode.

Chet
