V1.6e/2.3e and Arabesk 4.5
Is anyone having any luck burning a SD/DVD from a HD project.
When I try the still shots are a little shaky and all the pan shots are jittery and God forbid anyone have on a striped shirt because that looks like something out of a 60's rock video.
I am using V1.6/2.3e and Arabesk 4.5 on my S2K and the down convert from HD to DVD still looks the same as before.
I thought this patch was supposed to fix that.
Maybe I am doing something wrong but I don’t think so…
And by the way ...the HD video looks great.

Marcus,
The downconvert from HDV to SD using ARABESK is NOT as clean as using your camera/deck's downconvert function. Agree, the downconvert has much to be desired but is a reported issue. Surely this will be fixed. BTW: The HD is pristine. I am burning Blu-ray and the quality is excellent.
FOR NOW:
.Render your FINISHED HDV project out to a tape in HDV mode and LEAVE a 5 second black scene in FRONT of the project to allow a loss of pre-roll time when importing back to the editing appliance into an SD project.
.Once you have downconverted the HDV scene to the SD project, split your scenes into chapters and proceed as usual.
.NOTE: For those with a camera that is either a HD or FLASH drive only: Purchase a Canon HV-40 to use as a deck for exporting and importing via firewire. The downconvert is excellent and the LCD monitor works well as a preview.

Let me see if I got this right... Are you saying make my HD video project on the S2K then record it back into my Canon XLH1as SD then record it back into the S2K and then burn it as a SD/DVD???
WOW if that works GREAT but what a pain... I got the S2K because it was supposed to already do that.
But at this point I will do what ever it takes to make my people happy.

Marcus,
No, that would get you the same result as Bogart would still be doing the downcovert.
The work around is actually worse (although effective) as you export HDV (which takes waaaay longer to "create" in the Finish menu) and then have the Canon downconvert live back into Bogart into a SD Project.
Split for Chapters at that point and make an SD DVD as normal.
I got good results with HDV directly downconverted to SD DVD in my last Project using a video setting of High with a Rendering setting of Intensive in Add Film.
I had to use the described work around (out and back in) method with the OS version prior to this one.
I had heard AVCHD footage was still having potential downconvert issues, but not HDV footage.
I guess I will have to use the work around with this just completed Project and compare results.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

OK that’s a little confusing to me and I really have no more visible hair to pull out at this point
I don't know how the split chapters will help but I kinda got a handle on HDV directly downconverted to SD DVD using a video setting of High with a Rendering setting of Intensive in Add Film.
and I do mean Kinda

Thanks guy's for your help ... I love the HD and the new technology because I have been waiting for it for years ... I was making music videos before there was MTV but I miss the simplicity of the old avio.
I do believe the S2k and the S4k or 41k has the potential of being the next best thing ,,,But it or I need a little help

NO....Record HDV BACK to the CANON CAMERA.
.Assign a SD project
.Set the XLH1 to downconvert
.Import to the SD project
It appears that you are using HDV? Correct? I find AVCHD, due to compression, tends to make the horizontal lines of a scene shimmer.
HDV is not as bad. However, to my eye at least, the downconvert from the deck and camera is cleaner. Maybe I need glasses but I get a hazy artifacting look to even my HDV material.

Re: V1.6e/2.3e and Arabesk 4.5
The Splitting Chapters has nothing to do with "improving" the downconvert.
It is just easier to do it in the Scene bin for adding to the Storyboard rather than trying to set them in Arabesk.

I wonder if there is any chance MS will fix this problem ...HD to SD.
I was told this last fix would solve the issue but I see no differance.
I am gonna try going from the s2k to the canon and back to the s2k and I will let you know if it looks any better.
I have my fingers crossed.
