Re: Prestige 2.1v Questions
Hi Richard:
I use a prestige for all of my editing very happy with it would be worth bringing yours up to OS6 or OS7 so that you could store your finish video timeline on a external drive such as Lacie with Firewire. you can also increase the hardrive size to at least 160 to 320GB.

Re: Prestige 2.1v Questions
We used the Prestige 2.1 Smart Media card to wipe the HD in hopes of clearing up the choppy video, but no luck. I downloaded and burned to CD SE7 OS and my system will not read the CD. Cd was burned on a new Imac. How can I get my system to SE7? And I think I will need a new HD, what are my options?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Prestige 2.1v Questions
Assuming you burnt the ISO image file correctly onto the CD you need Arabesk installed along with SE2 to use the burner to read a CD. This can be a problem if you don't have Arabesk on an SM card . With SE4 and later versions you don't need Arabesk to read a CD.

I agree with Martyn.
With SE2 you need to load Arabesk from a Smart Media card prior to being able to use the burner to read/use a CD to load further software.
Waaaaay back when your dealer should have given you two Smart Media cards.
One with the OS (SE2) and one for Optional Software.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.

Re: Prestige 2.1v Questions
Things are getting better here on the home front. Found out that the hard drive was bad and have since installed a different hard drive. I reinstalled the 2.3 smartcard OS and the system seems to be working great.
Now the challenge is: Before I was running the time line in a "LOOP mode. I can not locate this trigger in the software. Does anyone out there know and can tell me where to locate the "loop" switch.
Thanks ahead for the help
Richard

I believe you are referring to "Show Options" or "Presentatin Options" found on the System screen. More info here:

Re: Prestige 2.1v Questions
Presentation Options is an add-on software product that requires activation separate from your Operating System. Go into the System Settings menu and click on 'install product'. Scroll down and see if you have 'Show Options'. If yes, you may need only to activate it with the 12-digit code... if it is not there you need to load the software and then activate it.

It is no longer there. Don't know where it went but it is not on the smartcard, but was on the system before the harddrive went south. How do I get it?

Re: Prestige 2.1v Questions
Hello Richard,
( Sorry Richard, I wrote this before I saw that you replaced your hard drive and re-installed your OS)
So this is now water under the bridge as it appears you are up and running ok now!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From your questions it appears that you are thinking that a defrag is possible and that you can do so and leave your operating system intact. THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!!
The operating system lives on the hard drive and the codes to activate each piece of software that has been added lives in the BIOS.
To Clean the hard drive ( or defrag it... which the PC world calls it, and which does leave the operating system intact ) you actually erase your hard drive and all that is on it including all the various files or films or finished videos in your story board and all the clips in your scene bin and all the titles and music files that you have added....will all be gone along with the operating system. The hard dive is cleaned by doing a complete destructive install of an operating system.
Merely doing an update will not correct any corrupted files but just adds new features to the existing OS .....but the bad stuff is still in there. Doing a complete destructive install is the only way to completely clean the hard drive.
Then all the add on software and music etc. will need to re-installed as well. The Codes to allow these add ons to be used have been placed in the BIOS and is the only thing that isn't erased by doing a complete install. So the only codes that are in there are for software that had been purchased by the original owner and their corresponding software programs may be re-added and the resident codes will allow them to function again after the programs themselves have been re-installed from their smart media cards or in later models with DVD burners installed...you can install from CDs.
So, you need a smart media card for the operating system, and cards for the add on programs that have been paid for, for your machine.
Click on System Settings.....then instal product...... then read the list of software that is already there and make sure that you have or can get the cards for each of these programs.
We have it a lot nicer now because MS has a direct download system so that we can each download all the software that we want to try out....and burn them to a cd and then if we have a cd/dvd burner in our PC or Mac and a DVD unit in our editors we can load them in right away and try them out before we decide to purchase them or not. When we make a purchase we then are given the codes to put in which activates the program without the word DEMO written across the middle of the screen.
I wanted to make certain that you understood that the MacroSystem machines work differently than the PC or Mac and that normal defragging is not possible but that a full install will clean your Hard Drive but you'll have to re-install the add on software again and all the music and video footage.
Keep us informed on your progress with this problem.
