I think MS and members of this forum are very fortunate to have many tecnically astute individuals who contribute their expertise to this group.
Volker, Tim, Chet, Lou, Jim and others not only solve our technical issues but generate a spirit of unity and loyalty with their daily input.
To quote Jim "This forum is the friendliest on the planet" and it frightens me to think we might be loosing this title.
In days past other contributors, with a wit sharper than a laser beam, kept me in stitches with their humor. Sadly, their commentary seldom appears on the screen today.
My thanks to all who have made this forum successful and helpful. Please continue your commentary and advice in the spirit of unity and friendship.

Re: DVD and Media Manager
Hi,
There is clearly a quality loss and it is not just a simple file copy, even if you select "extra high" quality when you export SD video, the bit rate falls down to ~13mb/s....the same if you choose to export in mpeg (same bit rate ~13mb/s) and that's not acceptable, especially if you have to re-encode again a second time to export in an other format. The bit rate should remain at ~25mb/s even for SD material after the export from Bogart to MM.
For HD, as I said before, Volker is right, there's no loss...the bit rate remains at ~25mb/s, so everything's fine.
I'm afraid Tim and the others are right...but for SD only...and Volker is right for HD...I've made some tests about that 'cos I wasn't sure regarding the transfer between Bogart and MediaManager.Volker wrote:I also archive with "HD backup" and additionally I transfer my HD projects to the film archive of the Media Manager.
There is no quality loss at all because it just does a "file copy" without any conversion when you do not use the "MPEG conversion" in the "Archive" menu.
So you can not see any difference at all when you playback HD from the storyboard or from the Media Managers archive.

Hi
I have only used SD footage to that but I assumed that the same applied to HD footage.
Don't know much about the way the machine (bit rates) works but I saw it didn't do a good job.
Volker thanks for your great knowledge and help you give use on the BB.

Re: DVD and Media Manager
No offense Volker, but you were working for MS for most of the year that the S4000Pro was just a very expensive alpha model doorstop that was being sold to the public as a working tool.
I don't blame you personally for that, but neither do I have any patience with a comment like "I guess you just have to know how to use it" when the machine still doesn't work right with something as basic as SD footage.
Does the Emperor's New Clothes translate over to German society?
Because that is what this has felt like to me for the last year and a half.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.
