Re: Casablanca Kron asking for System SM Card

OK. I managed to get the stuff reinstalled. Though I'm having a problem knowing what parts of the "All Software" card I can and can't install.

Another question I have is regarding a card I have that lists 'Prestige/Kron SmartEdit 3.3a + Arabesk 2.1' Given that SmartEdit 2.5 said I'd have to install Arabesk after it rebooted. I tried using this card.

I can't install this card at all. It states it can't "upgrade" the version of smartedit on the thing and has to do a full install. Asks for a license key (which I have 2 thanks to some doccumentation. One is listed as "Kron" but that's the same that is on the machine itself, and the other is listed as "DVD" But that one doesn't work either) and when it fails it causes the unit to go back to losing the set up information and the hard drive to no longer be recognized. Is this even usable for me or am I SOL because I can't find a version of Arabesk and my DVD drive is now practically useless?

Can we just check the procedures you are carrying out. You obviously know that to install the o/s from a Smartcard you insert the card with Kron turned OFF, then turn on. For other software you boot up Kron, go to System Settings then to Install Products. Insert the All soft SmartCard, wait for a few seconds while it is read. The Product list will expand to include those items on the card. Highlight the required software by clicking on it then click Install (if my memory serves me). Do this for each software product required. If it asks for a Lic number then it was not previously licensed to that machine.

If problems still occur, check the IDE cable to the hard drive (both ends). Remove and re-seat the RAM. There is also a possibility of a failing hard drive.

Thanks Martyn. I did manage to figure out what I had via the license sheet that came with the kit my dad found. I'm just wary about trying to install somethign with a license code and having to do this all over again because of it messing up.

I acctually noticed a very pecurular sound when the hard drive was not being "recognized" which leads me to believe that given the drive being approximately 9 years old is starting to give up the ghost so to speak. Wont' know for sure unless I crack the box open and take a look.

But what about the Arabesk thing? I did a test with some video and I can't output to the DVD drive only to 'VCR'

You do not need to reinstall the license codes as that is a one time process which I assume your dad did at some time nine years ago when he first got the various software.

Simply choose Activate and if it is a licensed software it installs saying Active and if you don't own the particular software it will request the license key.

Most can be tried out without the license key in DEMO mode which is what it will say if it requires a license key upon Activate and you bypass inputting the license (it will show DEMO instead of Active).

You can toggle any DEMO software "off" by choosing Hide.

Using any DEMO software will cause the word DEMO to be superimposed on the video after rendering.

PS - You cannot really "screw" anything up loading Optional software as the process is purposefully designed to be non-destructive.

At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.
